Small Home Based Business

Thinking of starting up a small home based business using my hobby to bring in some cash. This is nothing major, just hoping I could make a few extra bob to help with bills. I attended a 'Start Your Own Business' course a couple of years ago but it was mainly teaching you how to sell. I really need to know what tax stuff do I need to do which wasn't covered in the course. For instance can anyone just start selling stuff from a blog, do you have to be registered for tax?

Regarding profits, if I were to make €50 I'd be ecstatic!! We're not talking hundreds, thousands, or millions here. I'm small fry, sadly!

Hoping some kind knowledgeable person here can advise me please.

You could start with selling something on EBAY ( but beware of there fee's )
There is also Adverts or even Done Deal.

Thanks, I sort of thought that would be a good first step. But what about the tax thing?

If you will be selling your own product from blog, you probably will use paypal. So as far as I know they don't ask you to fill in any tax form. From PayPal you can transfer money to credit card or bank account.

I do very same thing, just I sell other people products.

There's a good Fas course called Assessing Business Opportunities, which allows you to meet other entrepreneurs in an interactive environment, you'll get talks from people who know their stuff and learn the ins and outs of business, and the ultimate goal of the course is to develop a business plan. Might be worth looking into.

Do the sole trader thing and disclose your sales and expenses to the revenue via your personal income tax form.

You will need to pay personal tax on your profits.

Thanks, that sounds easier to do.
