    Folks,

Looking for recommendations on golf courses in Marbella / Estepona area of Spain. We travel there every year and have played a number of courses but looking for somewhere new.

We will defo play Finca Cortesin, would like to avoid San Roque as we have played there lots of times.

We have transport so anywhere within an hours drive is acceptable.

If you know of any decent courses feel free to post them here.

    Cheers.

Hi, from my experience theres plenty of choice around the area. We've played Los Naranjoes which is enjoyable but can get quite soft underfoot. Good variety of holes and worth playing at least once. Rio Real is popular and again has a good variety of different types of holes but can be quite slow to play as theres lots of UK groups out and to be honest I found it to be an unfriendly course.

However one course that you do not tend to hear a lot about but one that I can really recommend is Santanna. Its about 45 mins from Marbella going east and is a wonderful course. The clubhouse is great and has the best breakfast around, (essential!). Its a long enough course but with very scenic holes. The staff are very friendly and its always in good condition. Its probably 3 years since we played it last but I will be back. Some great par 5's and its a course you can really open your shoulders on. Miquel Angel Jimenez plays it a lot and we met him the last time we were there.
Its also a pure golf course in that there is no real estate dotted around it.

    Hope that helps.

La Cala definitely worth a visit IMHO

Santa Clara is class, way ahead of La Cala and cheaper too

I played Santana a few days ago and the greens were not as good as usual due to serious rain a couple of days before I arrived. However I do recommend it as a 'real' golf course. I'm playing it again 2moro. The staff are friendly.
Unlike Santana the 3 La Cala courses are rather artificial in so far as one feels one is into mountain climbing rather than on a golf course!
Rio Real is always slow and they are not the friendliest in the world!
Santa Clara - next to the Costa del Sol hospital - is ok.
Forget about Cabopino - don't waste your money on it. I live next to it!
Weather in the mid 20's just now and ideal for golf - enjoy.
