    Hi all,

I'm just an ordinary colleen using acer laptop, so would welcome advice from you who know!!. I had a bit of trouble with Chrome recently, it wouldn't open pages or sites.

After much huffing and puffing, I decided to take it down, and then re install. Did that, and am getting the following message:

    "error 10, access denied"

Does anyone know what I can do? I loved Chrome, hated IE, which I have to use now

After a little googling it looks like this is a firewall error.

Do you have windows firewall on? (what operating system do you use, xp, vista, 7?) Might need to add an exception to your anti virus if that has a firewall component.

    Install Firefox! (Just kidding).

You say you uninstalled Chrome, if you browse to program files is there still a folder there named "chrome"? Try to delete that, download and try again.

    Hi chin chin,
    I'm on Vista,

I went to prog files, there was a chrome there. Did what you said - deleted it,, and just now my beloved Chrome is back!!

But..... as I was reloading it, my Mcafee said "a program is trying to access" or something along those lines, so I allowed it, and hey presto.

I think what you said is right, mcafee did this the first time, but I allowed the program and it still wouldn't reinstall.

Anyway, I'm not going to think about that for now. It seems to be a firewall thing alright.

Another dumb question (but that's how you learn... right?), how do I check or amend the firewall stuff.

Thanks so much, really appreciate the help.

Not dumb at all seeing I'm not familiar with McAfee! (Had to google again)

Looks like this is how you add an exception.

    1. Double-click the M icon in your taskbar.
    2. Select Internet & Network, then click Configure on the right.
    3. In the section titled Firewall protection is enabled, click Advanced.
    4. Select Program Permissions from the Home list on the left.
    5. Click the Add Allowed Program button on the right.
    6. Use Windows Explorer to browse and locate your application .exe.
    7. Click OK and close SecurityCenter.

    Glad it worked!

PS: Update your anti virus too, just in case!
