How to move from Limerick to Dublin

I'm fairly sure I want to move to Dublin, more of a chance of getting a job, but my biggest problem is moving all my stuff from here. It'd be a 7 hour round trip for my dad to move me. So does anyone have suggestions or ideas?

I suppose I could look into a moving company, generally the problem with that is you've to know how many boxes you have when you book them, which is odd. and quite hard to do. Or does anyone know a moving company that doesn't require this?

    thanks in advance.

Could you hire a van? Perhaps one that has offices in Limerick and Dublin and allows you to leave the van back to the Dublin office?

Look in newsagents and ask around, there are usually "a man with a van" type guys who will drive your stuff from place to place and maybe help move out/in some stuff.

Moving companies are an option if you are low on time, but tend to be expensive. The number of boxes is an estimate, they know you may have more or less. Usually, with reputable companies, you don;t give them a number of boxes but a list of stuff you want moved, and they will estimate now many boxes that is.

ok well good to know the boxes thing is an estimate. I could estimate, as most of my stuff is already in boxes from the last move!

just looked up the local paper, and there's a guy that says he has a mini van, and will move anything anywhere anytime. how much should i expect to pay for this, and any tips?

The Petrol/Diesel could be 40/50 euro, 1 hour each way to pack / unpack and 3 hour drive each way is 8 hours work is 15 euro an hour. No exactly expensive when you break it down, then there is the depreciation on the Van for the extra 350 miles or so.

Yeah, that quote may seem a lot but it's quite reasonable

    Sure call for another quote

Ok, ya thanks guys. I suppose if it was my dad he wouldn't take money so compared to that it seemed a lot! :pac:

well it'd be more like a half hour to load and unload each. ya 3 hours to dublin. I'd only need a mini van.

i could just ring this guy and ask. he might do it cheaper as its only a mini van.though would it be considered odd if i went in the van with him??

How much cheaper could one expect it to be in fairness?

Another tip: throw out stuff. It's just stuff. Travel lighter.

Cormie at van task is open to haggling so give it a go

Realy, how much did you think this was going to cost before you posted here?

I had no idea what to expect tbh. just the quotes i'm getting are a bit much i think. but i don't know. I suppose I don't have a choice anyway.

You could get the bus a bring the essentials the first week, go home a few times and bring it up in drabs as long as you have somewhere to leave it.

Ya, I thought about that, but there wouldn't be much point, as that'd cost as much with the amount of trains i would have to get.
