A pique of anger on reading a commentary about Cowens plans for Brand Ireland inspired the following poem. I mean, what planet do these fools be on?

Brand Ireland? It does not exist
It is the dream of fools
    With more money than sense
Who spent too long in schools
    Listening to hype and advertising
And think so little of their land
By giving the impression it is for sale
By labelling it with a Brand.

The Nation of Ireland DOES exist
Although you'd think they did not
For they are given sweet damn all
And told be happy with what they have got.
    Poor people lose their homes
And the rich get away scot free
    The policies of the criminals
Who want to make a brand of our country.

Brian Cowen wants to create a BRAND IRELAND to sell our country to investors, industry, etc. He fails to see that the people do not want to be part of a brand, we want to be part of our country. The policies of letting off the rich and bailing out the banks should give enough of an idea that a rich mans money is safe here. This country, we must tell Mr Cowan, it is not for sale.

Another speech asked us to use our writing to the benefit of the nation... stop talking down the country... well we are more than happy to do that Mr Cowen... let the message be... the Irish people are great, led by corrupt leaders.

Brand Ireland my arse. We should brand Cowen ON the arse!

Brand Ireland, why does that conjure images of Tesco value packaging and an ingredients list that'd make you put it straight back on the bottom shelf?

To be fair, there is alot about the Irish to be ashamed of.

Yes, this is true. Like all nations there are things that need to be put right.

There is though very much for us as a nation and a race of people to be proud of.

Read on another thread about Ireland being finished. True financially the country is in a quagmire but this will not be the end of the nation. The people and the land will survive, although the current financial system may not.
