Any latest news on who is/ is not going going there with the apparent lack of safety and facilities being reported?

On one hand it who be hard for governing bodies etc to send athletes

On other hand it smacks the face of what sthletes probably had to put up with in the past and shows current athletes as premadonnas?

Does it expose the cg as poor silly and antiquated cousin of the olympics. If nothing else very embarrassing for the cg IOC equivalent

    Will phil lavery still go?

Didn't realise Lavery was going. Do Northern Ireland send a team?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 11,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭RobFowl

Yep all the "home" nations are allowed enter teams. The Isle of Man enters a team too.
From what RTE are saying the NI team participation is in the balance

Some of the top names are not going because it clashes with the worlds. Individual athletes have also pulled out for safety reasons - I suspect more will

Now I wonder which team competed under this flag in 1930? 22px-St_Patrick%27s_saltire.svg.png

It's looks so bad for India. BBC new reporter saying this morning that they leave everything to the last minute and this time it hasn't worked.

<edit> they have also been victims of massive flooding, something they cannot control.

Health and security concerns have made more riders reconsider their participation in the upcoming Commonwealth Games, starting on October 3 in Delhi, India. After Geraint Thomas, Peter Kennaugh, Ian Stannard and Ben Swift of British Team Sky have already announced their withdrawal, their New Zealand teammate Greg Henderson has also cancelled his participation.

looks like there wont be too many cyclists going most reckon they gant afford to get ill (dengue fever risk after all the flooding recently)

got to feel sorry for india but looking at the pictures it doesnt look good (esp after that bridge collapse )

It said on the news this morning that the Scottish team's rooms had construction rubble in them and cow and sheep paw prints on the bedsheets. If thats the case, then the concerns seem justified.

They have, however, confirmed this morning that they are going.

I'd probably go myself. If everyone else pulls out there would be a handy medal to be won.

They don't to Goldsprints - anyway, which team do you qualify for? (there are 2 I could represent, and now I can't get a medal from the IVCA Track championships, this may be my only chance)

All 71 (I think that's the number) countries have indicated they are going, although I don't know how many individuals have pulled out of their respective teams

shame all the top GB riders arent there (mainly because they are all going to the europeans as its a 2012 qualification competition)
might make the aussies look a little less all conquering

The Isle of Man have sent a pretty strong team though

Does anyone know what event(s) Cav is due to ride? - is he going to try to defend his track scratch race title, or is he sticking to the road race?

He's down for both the Scratch and road races.

    says road race here

    and here

    liked this though :D
Mark Cavendish has declined the offer of his HTC-Columbia team to put him up in a five-star hotel in Delhi

His American-based team had read reports of problems at Delhi's athletes village - which just two weeks ago was described as ‘unfit for habitation' - and offered their star man five-star accommodation.

Was reading Dr Hutch's blog and he said the other day he was behind Millar on the TT course and he was having to do 400 Watts to keep 50 Metres behind him.

McCann was a DNF, must have thought "to hell with this" when he saw Millar go past :D

His one minute man caught him as well, Millar was his 2 minute man.
He had a very full program though. Won a bronze in the team pursuit, an aggressive fighting fifth in the road race and was a bit sick following that. Don't forget he's been racing full on since Feb as well.

Yeah he was impressive in the road race. He's probably used to racing in that kind of climate too.
