    just got myself a 1996 vectra a 1.6 saloon fairly clean and tight for the year, just wondering if anyone on here knows much about them,sounds like the tappets or cams are rattling, any quick fix solutions thanx.

    Nah, still firmly in banger class, but give them a few more years and they'll be gone like the FWD Asconas and I'll still have this rarity, a 1.7TD that hasn't been bast@rdised into a SRi/GSI rep:D

    @GazaM: Those things have hydraulic tappets and they might be gummed up a bit. Try an oil change and use a lighter oil such as 5w30 or 5w40. It may take a few weeks to work but it's worth a try because you will have to change the oil anyway so there's no extra cost.

    put in an engine flush before you change oil next too might help, wouldnt mind one of these as a daily driver

    as far as i remember they should have hydraulic tappets,and if not serviced on a regular basis ,are prone to wearing the cam lobes down very quickly.

    Its a 94, its rustfree, but there isn't a scratch free panel on it...
