Once you have your Category C theory test passed you will need to apply for your learner permit at your local Motor Tax Office.

Before you apply for your practical test you will need to sit 2 Driver CPC theory exams, not 2 courses. The CPC theory test has 2 parts, the multiple choice questions for truck and Truck case studies. Both exams cost E70 each and can be booked the same way you booked your other theory test

The CPC revision material is available to buy online at theorytest.ie (they accept visa, mastercard of laser) or by phoning 1890 606 106 (only visa and mastercard accepted) or you can send a postal order or cheque to them and costs E10.34 including postage.

Once you have your CPC exams passed then you apply for the practical test.
    Hope that helps!

Are you sure you are correct?
I thought that CPC is completely separate to your licence.
And that you can easily do your C licence without doing CPC.

If you want to drive a truck or a bus professionally then yes you do have to sit your CPC theory exams first before applying for your practical test

    That's correct.
But you still didn't answer my question...
Do you have to do it together with your licence, or not?

the theory test is different to the car one, there are questions about trucks in it,
your best buying the cd-rom of it €17.99 (i think) and doing heaps of practice tests,

edit: omg did you book your theory test for a truck assuming all the questions are the same as the car one!!??
    you better start studying!

the format of the theory test for Category C is the same as the Category BW (cars) test. There are 40 questions, answer 35 or more correct to pass. Cost is the same E35.60. Test lasts 45mins.

The revision material you need to study is the 4th edition Official Driver Theory test book or CD Rom. For the truck test you need to study chapter 1 part 1 (pages are in green on the book, covering general rules of driving) and chapter 2 part 1 (think in red, relating only to category C)

once that exam is passed, your issued with cert and then can apply for Learner permit...then apply for CPC theory tests....then practical test

What's the difference, if C1 is included in C.
In other words if you hold C, you can drive vehicles covered by C1.

But answering the question - yes. most likely you'll get C and C1.

if you do the driving test in a truck weighing 3500/7500kgs you will get a C1 licence,If it is over 7500kgs you get both the C1&C licence.
I really dont know why people even bother doing the C1 test as your limited to what you can drive were as a C licence can go upto 32,000kgs.

Yep you will have a better chance of getting a job with a C licence not many companies hire people with a C1 licence.
