iphone call display

am i going mad or am i missing something ?

in all the apple advertising i see, when a call is received on the iphone the display has a bar across the top with the callers name and then a small image of the caller to the right. in the middle of the screen is the mute/keypad/speaker/add call/facetime/contacts buttons and at the bottom is the end button.

how come on my iphone i do not see the image of the caller on the top bar ?

You do have a photo of the person in their profile I take it?

I cant test at the moment, but from what i recall of people ringing me (whose photo i have saved as their caller id thing) the picture comes up full screen.

Yeah the picture of the person comes up full screen (when you have the picture attached to the contact). At least it does on my iphone

If you have Facebook, your phone can pull the profile pics from your friends list to use in your contacts.

yeah, i have the photo on the contact and as others report it comes up full screen (albeit in the background) but it doesn appear in the top bar?

is this a US only setting ?

I think it depends on the size of the pic in the profile. My wife's photo used to come up like the one in your link. However, i changed to a new photo yesterday, and now it is full screen

Below is an explanation I came across on the web;

If you assign a contact photo on the iPhone it is going to appear full-screen for incoming and outgoing calls.

If the contact photo is assigned via any other means (i.e. in the contact manager to which you sync your phone, be it Outlook, Address book, Google contacts, etc.) it will appear with the small picture in the upper right.
