Being charged for statement of no claims bonus

Just asked my insurer Axa for a statement of my no claims bonus and have been told it will cost me €25. I've never heard of this charge before and am wondering if it is normal. I really need it asap as I'm trying to insure another vehicle with another company and feel I've no option but to pay up. It feels like daylight robbery though.:(
Is this normal? Should I pay?

I was of the impression that they are obliged to send you a copy of your NCB but that might just be at the end of your policy.

To be honest if thats the charge then unless they are prepared to wave it as a goodwill thing then Id say youll end up paying it.

Apparently it's getting quite common. Still ridiculous though, just refuse to pay and make enough noise and you'll get it FOC.

You can't use a NCB from one policy on another like that. If you are taking out a second insurance policy your NCB starts at 0...

Quite a few companies will now "mirror" your existing NCB when taking out a second policy, so they will apply the discount from the NCB on the second policy.

What you are actually looking for is a 'live bonus' which is a statement of your NCB entitlement in the middle of the insurance year. You are entitled to your normal NCB free of charge at renewal time. As long as your insurer has this charge covered in their Terms of Business, they can treat it as an admin fee

Check your last renewal notice. It should have details of your NCB. I would imagine that would be acceptable as you will normally sign to say you have no recent claims when applying for a new policy with a different insurer.

Tell them you want it in the post or a PDF copy in your email. You're entitled to it.

That being the case they are obliged to send you a copy (provided they havent done so already).

I went in to the Axa office again today claiming to have checked my rights with the Insurance ombudsman. They apologised for their mistake and said I had a right to get a statement of my no claims bonus on cancellation of my policy at no charge. They weren't sure how the misunderstanding happened. Chancers.
    Thanks for the advice boardsies
