That's a very unlucky end to his year.
Very good blog post by him though- impressive.

At least the driver and his insurers will get a nice surprise when they get the bill for the bike. I don't think it's really clear from the pictures, but it might be hard to repair. Even the buckled wheel will need a new spoke or two!

devastated for him. I did Kenmare half-ironman a few weeks ago and he won it by a country mile (or 10)... was over 20mins ahead of the next guy. I was just starting my run and he came breezing the other way, smiling and greeting other competitors. Just shows no matter how good you are, you cant account for idiot drivers!

Thankfully it wasnt more serious, some time off might do him good in the long-term and plenty of time to recover before the Olympics!

Had heard about this but not seen the photos.

Makes me so angry. Poor lad.

I might be wrong on this, but isn't Olympic qualifying based on a ranking system, not all countries get to send someone? So this really affects his Olympic qualifying as he misses out on ranking points just as he was at his peak for the season? Hopefully he can do enough in 2011 but it puts lots more pressure on him

I think though that points "degrade" over time. The big years for Olympic qualification are 2011 early 2012

There's a bit in this interview with Gavin Noble about qualifying

Hopefully won't hamper his qualifying too much.
