Ok so i lost my passport a few years ago and im planning on going to canada in the new year so will obviously need to replace it. They told me to bring my birth cert which i got of my mum and then went and lost

I am 22 and pshically have zero forms of i.d. im paying cash in hand for my apartment and getting paid cash from my boss so as far as things go i havent even exsisted this past couple of years. i dont even ever use my bank account.

How do i go about getting a passport bearing all this in mind.

Also just a side question. you dont need your passport to actually book a flight do u? you just need it on the day of departure because id like to book it asap.

Correct. You will need your passport to check in. Until then, spelling your name exactly as it will appear in your future passport is all you need to do.

You'll obviously need to get a new birth cert. to get the passport.

Get a biscuit tin and keep important documents in it.

Get application form in garda station/post office.
    Get two photos.
Go to garda station where they will witness your form and photos. You must also complete Section 6 (statement of loss) in the presence of a Garda.
Send off with birth certificate - you can get a new copy at any Births Deaths and Marriages office, assuming you were born in Ireland. Think it costs a tenner.
Once the Garda witnesses your identity, you don't need to submit another form of ID. The birth cert is the only document you need to send (assuming you are using your birth name as it appears on the cert).
    €80 for ten year passport.

and just one other question. i have no bank card. just a savings account. whats the easiest way for me to book an airline ticket online without needing to get a bank card.

If you are in Dublin, get a Dublin Gift Card for the amount you need to pay. It works as a MasterCard Prepaid and with Ryanair, saves you the €5 each-way CC fee.

Ticketmaster at Stephen's Green SC or Jervis SC for example. Make sure to go through the booking process until the credit card page first so you know the exact amount you need. You will have to round it up to the next full €5 also as the cards come in increments of €5 only.

You get your tickets by e-mail with pretty much all airlines. And definitely no passport details at booking, correct.

Oh... that much. This might not work for you then as there is a limit on the gift cards, €150 or so...

As mentioned above, it may not work for you at all. But in general, the gift card is a prepaid MasterCard. You can use it anywhere they accept MasterCard until it is empty or expired... no problems with using it multiple times.

In order for the Garda to sign the form they will need to see your birth cert. To get someone elses birth certificate you'll need a certain amount of their details, mothers maiden name, place of birth etc. You also have to be certain they haven't applied for a passport before as it will show up when the passport office process your application. You also have to be pretty sure they won't be applying for a passport in the future as your application will come up then too and when the other person proves they are who they are you might be getting a knock at your door!!!

That is not what he's asking. And we can never give illegal advice like that on boards.ie. The only way to get your passport to get over there next year is to go get a copy of your birth cert. Go here and send off the form for it. Then when you do this, please go get yourself an age card, maybe even chance your luck at the theory test and pick up a drivers license, open a current account and get a laser card, and maybe even apply for a credit card.

Get back on the radar so at least we'll know you are existing.

I don't think I am giving illegal advice!!! :D I'm answering the question asked above and explaining how difficult it would be, ie it wouldn't work.

And when you've finally got all your new documentation - scan them onto your computer so that you have the numbers handy. and remember if you lose your passport again they're likely to only give you one that will last either 2 or 3 years.

Its not that easy to make a fake application.
Its up to the Garda if they are satisfied with your identity. They might be happy with the birth cert alone, maybe proof of your name and address to match the details on the form (utility bill or something) They might refuse to sign if you don't have photo id and you may have to get the form signed at your local station, where they may have other means of establishing your identity ie. you being made known to them by somebody else.

you could put a fair whack more on the gift card. then it'll save you having to get sterling if you want to buy a coffee or something in heathrow when you're there. you can get them in dundrum sc too.

gift card? could you link me to details about this. if that were possible i would just go in and get a gift card for myself. only problem with that is that say for example the flight is 500. just incase it changed within a short space of time id have to get one for 550. what would i do with the extra 50 on the card then if it was left over.

the prepaid mastercard that was already mentioned is marketed as a gift card. you can use it in any shop that accepts mastercard. it's just handy for presents sometimes!
sorry for adding to the confusion.

Ah rite i get what you mean now. thats excellent. i thought tho as its technically not a proper card there wont be any user details registered to it.

the website asks for the bank card holders details and billing adress and name on card so how would i go about that? if its a one time gift card how does that work

or if i did use my friends card i how would the same thing work. would i just put all my friends details or my own?

    thats the last questions :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 860 ✭✭✭undo

The details are forwarded to the bank so they can double-check it is not some kind of fraudulent use of the card. With a gift card, the bank has no clue who the owner is. So you just input any ole' random details and the bank will be happy. If you use your friend's card then the billing address is theirs of course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,939 ✭✭✭ballsymchugh

while there is no name attached to the gift card, you just use your own name and address with it for online purchases. i've used it for ryanair flights for ages.

if you use your friend's card, their name and address goes into the billing section, while your name and address goes into the section for the name going on the ticket.
take the ryanair website, your name goes in first, then on the next page, you put your name and address, while at the bottom of that page, you are asked for a billing address, so put your friend's address there. then at the line for name on the card, put your friends name there too.

    or

if you use the gift card, use your own details in all sections. sometimes it may take a while to verify the gift card but it eventually comes through. the first time i used a new one with ryanair, i got the session locked page, but the email came through after an hour or so.

np's lads. thanks for the help

it was so much a few years ago easier when i was a little younger and my mum used to do all this:rolleyes:

You can still walk into a travel agent's and have them type in everything into the airline website. It will be easier. And you will pay a €100 premium for the pleasure.
