iphone 4 as ipod in car?

hi guys, what the best value option to have my iphone 4 as an ipod in the car and cut out to become aphone agin if a call comes in? can this be done for a reasonable cost? thanks

any bluetooth radio with an Aux in will do this.

Lidl/Aldi have them for ~ €80 a pop every couple of months.

What type of car / car radio do you have? A lot of them cannot be changed very easily.

the dice kit replaces the CD changer in and allows you to skip track etc from the radio or MFSW.

You can pick up a holder plus a charger with built in FM transmitter from ebay for under 20 quid on ebay. I picked one up about 6 months ago and it works a treat

An FM transmitter won't allow you make and take calls, though.

Sony have some excellent BT stereos at very reasonable prices. I posted a link to my one in another thread re car stereos if you do a wee search.

If you want a full bluetooth/iPod kit the Parrot MKi 9200 is very good. Cherges the phone/player too.

i got that one in a shop in nutgrove the only probelm is after a few minutes use it blows my fuse for the cigerete lighter!!!

I couldn't fault it at all, can save two different frequencies so when one starts to get overpowered by a local radio station, you can just switch to the other. The only place I've ever needed to switch frequencies was in London and only for a few minutes. The built in mic is very good, never have anyone complaining they can't hear me and it plays over the speakers just fine.

It also has one button that allows you to answer the phone / play and pause music with one click, skip a song forward with two clicks, back a song with three etc It fades out the music when you dial out or have an incoming call and picks up where it left off after the call.

Well worth the money IMO, I'd be lost without it on the road.

Any idea where you can get one of these in a shop? My car's cigarette lighter is in a weird position so I'd just like to have a look at one of these before I buy it.

Also, how do the calls work on this? Is it just that you answer it on speakerphone and the music switches off automotically or is there a mic and a speaker on the system?

Ah right - but it doesn't allow you to use the stereo for calls, etc.

If you're happy to replace your stereo, then that's the best way to go. iOS 4.1 now supports track skipping from Bluetooth devices.

I didn't want to replace my stereo, so I got one of these and an AUX IN cable for the stereo. Not cheap, but dead handy for docking and charging. GPS performance is great too.
