Alternator belt pulley squeaking

Does anyone know of anything i can use to stop the loud squeaking noise the above, its when its started cold it is very annoying... So anyone know of any cures? Cheers

V or serpentine belt?

How do you know it is the pulley that is squeaking?

Once a pulley is starting to squeal, its time to have it replaced, remove the offending compnent, (alternator/power steering pump and replace. If its simply the belt, talcum powder, WD40 and proprietry sprays available from most decent motor factors will cure the noise, but not permanantly. Its often more economical to replace the belt itself, which are bought cheaply enough and wont cost you much in labour, or try it yourself.

WD40 on a fan belt ? I thought they make noise when they are loose, don't see how WD40 will sort that.
