    Trying to wipe this using the inbuilt recovery method, but when I press F11 the screen "Rescue and REcovery 4" appears but then nothing else - no menu, nothing. Am I missing something? How can I run/select anything when there's nothing there! :(

    try this:
    Turn off the PC. Then press the Novo key until it boots. You'll find the options there

    novo = power button

    So just keep the power button pressed? The black screen with options of starting windows normally/safe mode etc appears then but when I click on Start Windows Normally it goes to the loading screen and keeps repeating that. Doesn't get any further. A blue screen flashes up at one stage too!!! Happend another laptop before and I just wiped it but having difficulty running this recovery one!!

    yep, found this info on some lenovos forum so tought can be usefull ...
    if you have a Lenovo Care button, try this : turn laptop off, press nad keep pressed until recovery menu pops up

    Thanks for the suggestions but this still doesn't work. When I press F11 on startup, the computer changes to a black 'loading' screen [the one with the increasing barcode type!] and says "Thinkvantage Technologies" and the "Rescue and Recovery 4" screen appears and then NOTHING. I expect a menu to pop up to accompany this, and even when I continue to press F11, nothing happens. I have tried pressing the Lenovo Care button also to no avail.

    Is this a problem with the inbuilt recovery do you think? It seems like it is frozen. I will bring it into a computer repair place if I can't get any answers here, but if it's something simple I'd rather try & sort it out before forking out €60!
