Research Grants and Maintenance Grant Renewal

One of my friends is a postgraduate student and she receives a maintenance grant. This year, she applied for and won an additional research grant from the university and the renewal form for the government maintenance grant requires her to indicate that she got this additional research grant from the university, and how much it's worth. Does this mean it will just be included in her reckonable income, or will her grant simply be cancelled (because she is already in receipt of public funds)?

She says that when doing up her budget it turns out that if the maintenance grant is cancelled, she'd actually be worse off than before the research grant!
