Anybody got any thoughts on this years library tours?

Did you t hink they were too long, too short or just right?

Did you find the information helpfull or was there anything you felt was left out?

    All comments welcome..

I found out what I needed. I can go there. Take out a book. Read it and return it. What more do you need?

Unfortunately mine was much too short and very lacking in all of the basic information :( We were brought in, the woman basically just said "this is the library". She didn't tell us how to take out books, where the catalogues etc. were, what books you were allowed to take out and so on. Not much help at all...
Luckily I have a friend who was able to show me around afterwards!

Mine was fine, not much of note. Telling us too much would just give us more to forget, in all fairness.

On second thoughts wouldn't mind the option of a more detailed, thorough library tour sometime.

Same here. She explained that we'd get fined for making noise, pointed at a few different categories of books, then sent us on our way.

It was sad, because we passed another guide who looked like he was explaining everything with lots of useful details...

The library tour confused me, and I felt even worse after the "How To Use A Law Library" talk, but I think it's one of those things you have to pick up in practice and I'll work it out as I go along.

    What was that all about?

The Law librarian came into us in the Davis theatre and showed us how to find catalogues/journals/unreported cases and every other source of information (there are many) on the library website and explained a bit about abbreviations(there are loads of those too) but it resulted in most if not all of us being left extremely confused. Legal skills might sort that out a bit though, as they'll be going through online databases and how to add citations and footnotes etc to essays, so presumably we'll then be able to understand the entire process. I hope.

The man was very helpful (this was at the Hamilton) and explained everything quite well. We had a separate talk about the library lending systems, and that was quite in depth and maybe a bit overlong, but the tour itself was well done.

I thought the guy who did our tour of the Hamilton was pretty good; told us what we needed to know without overloading us with information.
