For those Boards Members based in Britain Iceland Express are offering cheap flights to New York. It involves a stopover in Iceland and you have to book by the 29 September but the price is £290 including all taxes and insurance. A 20kg baggage allowance is included. It may be necessary to be flexible with dates to find the £290 fare. The Flights are from Gatwick. I reckon thats at least €200 saving. This deal is valid for travel until 4 June, 2011.

Good spot OP. Also doing £145.00 incl taxes one way, availability seems good. Skyscanner.ie are showing these flights with Iceland express (indirect obviously) for €242.00 o/w incl Aer Lingus connection from Dublin.

I think alot of Irish people are quite happy to trek through British airports to take advantage of the price competition on routes.

Delta are offering direct flights this Nov-Mar from Dub to Nyc for €385
compared to this 'bargain alert' of £290/€340 indirect from London.

Standard direct fares from London to Nyc hover around £350 anyway

    Snubbleste,

    Delta €385 + TAXES of €140.00 = €525.00

    Iceland Express= €357.00 incl Taxes

Even allowing for Dub/Lon connection, that's a bona fide 'Bargain Alert'

With air lingus for the same dates you can get a direct return flight
to JFK for 427euro including all taxs and charges and 1 checked in bag.

I disagree. Flying to Gatwick means either Aer Lingus or Ryanair, both of whom charge per bag. So as a rough guesstimate you can add roughly €80ish for your DUB-LGW leg including the gazillion charges and checked baggage fee.

Then you have the luxury of a stopover in Iceland (!) of all places. Sorry but this truly sounds like hell, even for the most determined bargain hunter.

If you'd bothered to read the OP before getting on your high horse you'd have seen that it wasn't posted as a bargain alert for passengers from Ireland.

Mea Culpa regarding December flight, my price comparison pertained to May 2011, where that differential with Delta still applies.

Whether some would be aghast at an Icelandic stopover is subjective, others may use it as an opportunity to experience a unique landscape & culture. Like Woodbury Common....but nice...with glaciers.

Why have you put bargain alert in brackets? Just because it may not be relevant to you, that doesn't mean it is any less of a bargain alert.

No, it's not. Britain is England, Scotland and Wales.

Is that cheap,a few years ago you could fly return for under 300 euro .
Flights seem to have increased alot in recent years.

Northern Ireland is in the United Kingdom, not Great Britain.
