Brother has an 02 Ford Fiesta Ghia with the 1.25zetec engine(MkIV). Only done 36k miles and had clutch replaced earlier this year due to slave cylinder going.

In PMO, but no SH as local indy has serviced it. Has a couple of spots of rust that's been braised and painted over, and there's a small crack on the front bumper(but it passed NCT with duct tape over it).

Just trying to get a ballpark figure to see if it's worth his while changing cars as he's actually doing some mileage these days, rather than 40-50 a week.
Also trying to figure if it's worth the difficulty of finding a ghia front bumper to replace the cracked one.

    Ta!

If it's of any use, a 2003 Fiesta 1.4 Ghia with 70,000miles has a book value of €3,350 - that's as far back as the book goes.

Would the 03 be a newer model than the 02 your brother has? Might make a bit of a difference, but could be balanced out by the lower mileage.

Gut feeling is that it should go for around €2,500. There is a bit of a shortage of cars in that end of the market as the scrappage has swallowed up a lot of them, so it should sell to someone looking for a good first car.

If you could find a decent bumper in a scrap yard for the car, that was the same colour and wasn't expensive, it might be worth replacing. If it's going to cost any more than €100 or so, I can't see it being worth it.

I'm thinking around 2200 given that the clocks on these only go to 99k then start at zero again and it doesn't sound like a minter.

Cheapest one on carzone is with 80k that looks to be in very good condition, private sale, asking €2300. They will probably let it go for close to €2k so based on that and the description of the OP's one not being in the best of condition I would expect to get around €1700 for it as it is.

Depending on the size of the crack sometimes they can be filled in and repainted. I would get a quote for the work from a few bodyshops. I would also try and find a replacement bumper from a scrap yard if it is cheap enough and in the same colour. If you need to respray it then you are probably talking a few hundred euro.

Hard one to call really without actually seeing the car's overall condition, whether it is worth spending money on cosmetic repairs or just part with it as is on the cheap.

Interior is spotless, no marks on anything, no wear and tear. Outside has the gouge on the front bumper and a few car parking dings.

Tried scrappies when it originally happened, and unfortunately finding MK4 facelift zetec bumpers in silver is tricky!

Why replace the clutch due to a failed slave cylinder?

According to www.partfinder.ie there is a breaker's yard in Donegal that has a front bumper from a 2001 silver Fiesta Ghia. I'd imagin there is no difference between a 2001 and 2002 Mk IV Ghia bumper.

Would the bumper off a 98 Fiesta be the same model? Don't know where the OP is based, but....

Just picked up a car in Tallaght Ford and they have 6 cars parked that look destined for the scrap heap. One of which is a Silver 98 Fiesta.

Might be an LX model and I don't know if the bumper is the same, but even if it's different then a pristine LX bumper would surely be better than a knackered Ghia one?

The driver's side looked in great nick, but couldn't see the passenger side.

Might be worth a call to them and see if they'd let you take the bumper. No skin of their nose if you take it off the car before it gets scrapped. 01 400 0044 (Four Double O, Double O, Double 4 - Tallaght, Tallaght Ford).

Fiesta got an overhaul in late 1999 including new bumpers, headlights and grill so one from 1998 will not fit.

Why replace the clutch due to a failed slave cylinder?
Because when a slave cylinder fails, the clutch doesn't disengage fully and it wears out extremely quickly?

The problem with front bumper is twofold:
    #1 Facelift in 99
#2 LX/Zetec trim have a body coloured strip going all around the car, including front bumper. On ghia it's painted, so if I used an lx/zetec one I'd need to get it resprayed.

I'll keep an eye on partfinder and ring some local scrappies, might try traynors too.

    Ta for the headsup
