Has he been our most expensive ever flop ?
He has done next to nothing since signing.
He has been an absolute disgrace tonight, not trying a leg.
He should never wear the Spurs jersey again.

    Yes to all.

Went missing for long periods of the game especially in the 2nd half.

    how much was rebrov?

i used to really like bentley
til he came to spurs. so so often he has failed to perform. think he had a little run around christmas where he was doing ok. long time ago that!

very disappointing tonight. doesnt he call himslef a spurs fan? to play like that against the arch rivals? i think lads on here would have done better than him tonight

    At least Rebrov ran around.
Bentley didn't break sweat tonight against our rivals and his old club.

Cnut must be laughing when he looks at his bank balance every day.

even at the start of the game last night, there was bentley standing in the centre circle with tatoos all the way up his arms, he even looked like an ape

i really think we should cut our losses on him and let him off for any ammount of money

We'd be lucky to get rid of him on loan. We paid a fortune for him, and he is on crazy money. And remember we signed him when we already had Lennon

Lets not all be wise after the event though, everyone thought he was a good signing at the time no matter who we had in the squad.

It hasn't worked out and now its time to move on. I reckon we'll swap him + cash for Pienaar in January

piennar is out of contract next summer so no cash will be involved if we give a player id say

In fairness, it was widely regarded as a strange signing at the time. We had Lennon up and coming and were crying out for a left sided player, and we spend a fortune on another right sided player

Anyway, that's all water under the bridge now. I have said enough about him, my feelings are well known.

lennon was piss poor before we signed bentley.

lennon was piss poor before we signed bentley.

Lennon had played over a hundred games for us before Bentley signed, so saying he was piss poor is silly. He was young with great potential who many expected to become a first team regular which he has.

ok he had potenital , but he wasn't setting the world on fire - when we signed bentley he started to deliver - a sort of rocket up his arse which he could do with now

I wont dis-agree with you there mate.

He just seems too much of a messer.

I read an interview with Woodgate, who is not a shrinking violet and he said Bentley is just bannanas.

On the Arsenal game, it galled me the way he played and someone who really wants to play and adds value like Niko is sitting on the bench.

Pieenar wants to come to us, but there is noting to say Moyes will still be at Everton in January. Just cant see Everton score goals to keep him in the job, especially with a canditate like O Neill in the wings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,778 ✭✭✭Big Pussy Bonpensiero

Give him a few games before ye all condemn him! I thought he had a great end to last season so perhaps there's still something left in him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 823 ✭✭✭kakee

You would imagine that Harry told Bentley that the right wing position was up for grabs as Lennon is playing poor at the moment and to go out and put in a performace against Arsenal.
You would imagine that Bentley would be fired up. He is a Spurs fan, he was playing against his old team, his old manager and he also had a chance to win a place in the Spurs team.
What he proved in the Arsenal game is he doesn't care about anything only himself. I reckon actually having to play a game every now and then is a big inconvience for him.
We don't have a reserve team and he won't get near the match day squad after that display so if the lads train 2 hours a day the most he will have to "work" is about 10-12 hours a week.

    I will reiterate my stance.
The fella is a joke and should never have been on the pitch tonight.

While Lennon is out, he is a very good replacement. He's played about 2 games all season so it's harsh to criticise him on his performance last night. Players need games to get up to speed when they've been out injured.

How? And who would you prefer to replace Lennon. Please don't say Kranjcar because he is crap at right mid.

Bentley hasn't played this season very much, and for those who seem to have a short term memory, try to remember, when Lennon was out at the back end of last season, Bentley came in and did a very good job at right midfield. And we ended up finishing 4th.

Yeah, we definitely dont want him!! Young Darrell Horgan has twice his work-rate (no joke).
I am now in full agreement that we need to get rid of him. Was useless last night and showed no interest in the game whatsoever. Zero workrate, zero heart. We dont need him. If we get Pienaar for him oh how I would laugh!

Jenas would have done fine on the right no doubt.

He'd work harder and put in more effort.

I'd play Jenas there. Not that he's all that but he'd be better than Bentley. In fairness Bentley wasn't bad back end of last season though I do think it's a bit of leap to credit his displays with our finishing 4th;) .

We should have jogged him on when his stock was "high" last summer.

You say that like its a given, like its a fact. There's no way you could know that though. I could just as easily say, Jenas would have had a stinker out on the right wing.

Bentley's position is right midfield, he is more than adequate to replace Lennon when he is out injured, or even when he's not on form.

I didn't credit him with anything, all I said was he came in and did well, and was an integral part to us finishing 4th, as were a lot of other players who came in and did a job for us.

Although I agree with a lot of the posts, however I see it as such:-
    • He stood out as the star player when he was at Blackburn but, with all due respect to Blackburn, they weren't a team blessed with many flair players at the time.
    • In fairness, he did put in a few good performances in the latter part of last season but with a fit Lennon, I can't see Bentley being anything more than a squad player.
    • Wenger let him go from Arsenal. How many top class players have been released from Arsenal and gone on to prove them wrong. Can't think of any.
    • There's no harm in discussing it on forums like here, but I hope the fans at the games don't start getting on his back or any of the players for that matter, as what little confidence they have would surely be washed away and that can only be bad for the team and moral.
    • Although the transfer fee for Bentley was 'undisclosed' newspapers reported at the time suggested that it was in the region of £12m plus add on's depending appearances/success etc. I think if we were to sell in January, we'd be lucky to recoup £4m.
It's a hard one to call because I think he does have something in him but whether or not it's good enough for us I'm not sure. On rare occasions he shows moments of brilliance....but rare being the prime word.

Intergal? Yeah I suppose Bentley throwing that bucket of water over Arry was one the hightlights of the season alright :D

jenas most certainly would have done well at RM instead of bently. better work rate, better on the ball, more pace and most importantly of all he wouldnt take shots from 40 yds out and try to hit the back of the stand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 197 ✭✭thudd

Fair enough, he's been a very expensive flop. Although when he came in for a bit last season i felt he did ok. Also, he has the greatest chant ever (Not sure if its sung in the stands that much though!):

He scored that goal against the scum, na na, na na
From 40 yards he beat Almunia, na na
Ever since he was a kid,
He always knew he was a yid,
Its David Bentley, Tottenhams number 5!

    Lol

Well he was pretty crucial for us when Lennon was out injured at the back end of the season wouldn't you say?

In the last three months, he played in the win against Wigan(A), Portsmouth(H), the Arse(H), the win against Chelsea(H), the win against Bolton(H), so that's a pretty important role. He also played a big part in our run to the semi-final of the FA Cup. And I remember him playing very well throughout.

Once again, you can't say something like that and post it as a matter of fact. I could just as easily say I most certainly would have done well at RM.

When has Jenas ever shown in his Spurs career that he would do well at RM? He is a box-to-box CM, not a RM.

As a blackburn fan I know the lad has quality, he had it at Blackburn because he was well managed, he comes across to me like a lad who needs constant attention and very good man management - and as a previous poster said he was a star in the Blackburn team.
That is not the way it is at Spurs and Harry doesn't strike me as the type that is that good at man management.
If Hughes could get him at Fulham I'd say he would, but I'd imagine he is on huge wages.

    Lol. Oh dear.

Harry is known as one of the best man managers in the Premier League, if not, the best. Look at how he turned around so many of our players form in the first season in charge. Everyone knows Harry is one of the best at man management.

Yeah I suppose you could see it that way, but as many as you can say he improved,he also gave up on a good amount of players. He always struck me as someone with little patience. Laugh away though.
