I'm in France for a year, in a city called Rennes.

Really enjoying it so far, even if I have been here less than a month :pac:

Just wondering if there was anyone else who was on erasmus (or has been on erasmus!) around these parts.

If so, where are you? How're you getting on? Have you noticed any MAJOR differences (except language, obviously :P) between your host university and maynooth? Which do you prefer so far, host uni or Maynooth? Tough question, I know :P

Do miss a good oul night out in the roost like I do? :pac:

Yep I was in the Czech Republic last year, so I know how you feel.
But I'm continuing my Erasmus here with all the International students,
    so it's not so bad!

Oh cool, there's a friend of mine I met here who is going on Erasmus to the Czech republic for the second semester. He's studying Czech in his home Uni and here though. Did you go to a Czech speaking university or English speaking?

Well I had most classes in English and 1 or 2 in Czech, so I had to learn Czech as part of the course, wasn't too bad, although the grammar is pretty rough.

That's rough. I've been learning French since primary school and I still find it incredibly hard here to understand people. The accent is particularly strong where I am though, and they speak ridiculously fast too. Those end of year orals in Maynooth seem so easy now :o

Is your university English or French speaking? What language are your lectures in?

It's entirely French speaking, even the english department. There is a business college called Rennes 1, down the road which teaches through English but My college, Rennes 2, teaches exclusively through French.

Aahh I see I see. I take it you're quite handy at French then? Are most/all Erasmus programme universities done through the native language of the country? I've kind of got my heart set on doing the Erasmus in Spain. And I'm fairly decent at Spanish though, I'll get by anyways, if I have to.

Where can I get more info on Erasmus.
I'm in 1st but I might be going to Amsterdam for business and pleasure.

Would the Erasmus organizer help me out with a few details?

Pop over or email Wendy Cameron in the International Office on the South Campus. She's really lovely and she has all the information over there! And you can check out their website http://international.nuim.ie/erasmus. I was in Germany last year and Wendy was a wealth of information and help!

Do we organise our erasmus ourselves or does the department help organise it as well?
