Due a change

Lads I drive a '99 Accord 1.8i. 105k. I was intending on changing this year but I intend to change my tax bracket next year so I am saving from that, and I was thinking about changing to a 2008 2.2 Diesel Accord.

What do you lads reckon? any advice (about the car, not the wedding) would be great. I just want a sounding board to see what is out there with regards value. I want a diesel because and I want a big car. I want to avail of the post 08 tax rates too.

what alternatives are there to the Accord? I'd be more on the comfort side of things as opposed performance. But I don't want a chicken chaser that will saunter down the motorway.

Also with regards selling my old car what would be the best way? Body work is fine bar one scrape over the rear wheel arch. Mechanically it seems perfect. I'm not out polishing it with a chamois every second evening but nor am I running the Sh1te out of it either.

Hard to find a good alternative to the Accord. You should get a 2008 one for reasonable money because of the new shape one introduced that year pushing down the prices of the old shape.
What's the budget? You could consider the Mazda 6 diesel, but I'd go with the 2.2 engine in that, not the older 2 litre.
Other suggestions that you'll get here are the Mondeo, Superb, Passat, Insignia etc. All fine cars really. If going for one of the VAG I'd go with the 2 litre over the 1.9.
I'd also ignore suggestions of the Octavia, it's in the class below the one you're looking at.

Try a subaru legacy boxer diesel. 4wd, cheaper tax and less common than the accord.
