Hi DOTHEDOG, You might be better off just buying the right trailer for weight of your boat, the law is getting a bit tough on trailers and the cars and vans that pull them so better safe than sorry. By the time you pay a welder and buy all the bits it work out more expensive. I am sure one will come up on done deal or apollo duck over the winter that will do.

Give these guys a ring and tell them what boat and engine you have, and they should be able to tell you what is the best trailer for your weight of boat this will give you an idea of what to look for.

Second what fergal said. I've worked in the trailer industry for a number of years and can say with a certain degree of confidence that you can easily buy a new, ce approved road trailer for less than it costs to make one.

Even if you do make one it will have to be plated.

And yes, the guards have gotten much more savvy about towing law. I've seen a number of trailers impounded recently.
