205 GTI Leaking Boot

    Hi,

Can anybody who's familiar with 205 GTIs offer any advice. I've a bad leak in my boot. It's getting in behind the exterior tailgate trim, filling the drain channel and flooding the boot floor. Has anybody had a similar problem and been able to fix it? I've read on other forums that it might be the lock. Is there anything else behind the trim that might be letting water in? Thanks.

    Paul

I used a hose pipe on it last weekend, working my way from the bottom upwards. It was only when I directed the nozzle above the slit at the top of the black trim (with water running down behind it) that I could see it pouring into the boot. So, it's definitely coming from the tailgate itself. I don't want to go to all the trouble of removing the trim to find out it was the lock. I might just tackle that first and see if it makes any difference. Thanks for the advice though.

I had a 205 with this same problem and eventually discovered it was the lock it was coming through.

    Cheers Ralphie,

I'm going to spend Saturday on it. Hopefully it's just the lock. Just noticed this morning that the passenger footwell was soaking wet. Happy days.

Check the door trim, maybe rotate it a bit just in case. I did that with mine and it solved that problem.

Will do. I had a new door fitted not too long ago. Maybe it's just a case of readjusting the rubber seal around the door.

Re the front leak, if you remove the inner door panel trim, there should a waterproof membrane stuck on the door covering all the access holes for the window winder mechanism. If that membrane is torn or missing replace it/repair it with a sheet of plastic and tape. I've often seen water getting in between these two panels and dripping off the bottom of the door panel into the car.
