    Hey guys,

friend of mine is having probs with her iphone 2g, and wants to try a full restore to see if it helps. Now, problem is is that it was bought in the States, and when they got it over here they 'gave it to a guy' who jailbroke and unlocked it so she was able to use it here.

Now, when I connect it to my itunes to attempt a restore etc it says something about inserting a sim and stuff before we can proceed. Tried her old sim, mine, etc (so a meteor and a three) but no luck.

Any idea of how to proceed, so unjailbreak it so it can be used here, or is that a bit of a pipedream? At this point it's unusable and she has a new phone, but part of me sees this as a challenge now!!!

If it came from America it is officially locked to AT&T, no chance of fixing that through the official channels. However, you can use Redsn0w to activate, jailbreak and unlock it. Here's a decent tutorial: http://www.redmondpie.com/jailbreak-iphone-os-3.1.3-firmware-with-redsn0w-0.9.4/

Basically Redsn0w creates a custom version of the OS file that is already activated, jailbroken and unlocked. Then just set the phone up as a new phone instead of from back-up and it should be running a lot better.
