    Hi Folks,

I was just wondering if anyone knows what happens to old signs that are used for political campaigns as in for local consellors, local TD's etc. As far as I know I think there was new legislation brought in whereby the person/party would be fined for every sign left up after the campaign. If there is anyone out there who has any exeperience with this would love to hear back from ye.

    Regards,

    Dave

the are usually took down and stored by members of the local political party for use in the next election

i have seen farmers to put them to alternative uses such as fixing holes in roofs and generally keeping the rain off things

My mother and grandfather were both county councillors and my Grandfather was a TD for yonks. I remember doing the rounds taking them down after the elections and storing them in the shed, either that or using them to insulate the shed! But we had to try and save as many as possible, from what remember they weren't cheap at all to buy!

They have one week to take them down, this is often extended to two weeks. Anyones up after this that are reported to the council, the council usually passes the info on to the relevant candidate and they are asked to take them down.

If they are taken to a certain place in a council (ie Ballymount recycling centre in South Dublin Co Co) the council will get rid of them. I'm not sure who pays for this disposal.

No idea if anyone has ever been fined for having posters up.
