    Countdown to Tramore Oceanic Surf and Sea Festival - September 23 to 26
    Eco Workshops, a Farmers’ and Country Market Extravaganza, a Non Electrical Picnic and much more
    The countdown is on to the many free events on the action packed festival programme for the upcoming Tramore Oceanic Surf and Sea Festival from September 23 to 26.
    The festival commences next Thursday, September 23 at 7pm with the opening of photography and art exhibition ‘From the Mountains to the Sea’ by Carmel Clery and Sinead Ni Chonaila and a poetry reading by Aideen Henry will be opened by Mayor of Tramore Cllr Anne Marie Power at Tramore Coastguard Station.
    Friday sees the towns restaurants join in the festival fun offering ‘Festival Special Menu’s’. The Seahorse Tavern will host a ‘Five course fish dinner’ with Beer Tasting by Dungarvan Brewery commencing at 7pm, tickets are €35 and available from The Seahorse. A ‘Mini Surf Film Festival’ at The Vic and The Grand Hotel will feature two different surf films commencing at 7.30pm. A reading of ‘Tramore Memories’ by author Johnny Rogan commences at The Seahorse Tavern at 5.30pm.
    On Saturday, September 25 a ‘Working with Willow’ workshop for children with Cathy Hayden will commence at Tramore Coastguard Station at 11am costing €5 per child – for the more adventurous Waterford Rugby Club will host a Tag Rugby session for children on Tramore beach at 11am. A homeopathy workshop with Marie Byrne will take place at T-Bay Surf Centre at 11am with remedies and cures from and about the sea cost €10. This will be followed by a Women’s Health & Nutrition with Mary O’Sullivan, at 12pm also at T-Bay Surf Centre. Budding artists young and old can book in with open space art for either “Wipeout” an animation workshop for children at 12.30 or for adults an introduction to painting “Seascapes” at 2.30pm at The Coastguard Station. Jim McCarten from Rinnashark Sea Angling will host a Sea Angling Workshop at 2.30pm also at The Coastguard Station. A Sea food foraging tour with Bruce MacDonald and Alan Walshe will commence from the lifeguard hut at 2.30pm.
    Dermot Blount will host a half price cycling tour of the lakes leaving from T-Bay Surf Centre at 2pm while ‘A Big Wave Channel Swim Talk’ with Jim Swift will take place on the decking. A half price Nordic Walk will leave from Freedom Surf School at 2pm. Freedom Surf School, Tramore Surf School and T-Bay Surf Centre will host half price surf hire and lessons from 2pm to 4pm.
    Also on Saturday, September 25 Transition Towns Tramore will host a Non Electrical Picnic at the Hydro Field at the back of the beach from 12.30pm this event will explore body, mind and soul fun events and therapies. Karin Dubsky of Coastwatch Ireland will host a Coastal Eco Workshop at 2.30pm from Oceanics Surf School.
    Sunday, September 26 ‘Family Fun Day’ will commence with activities open to all from 11am at the Tramore Beach area. A guided ECO Walk with Ecologist Grace O’Sullivan will leave from Oceanics Surf School. Waterford Orienteer’s will host a “come along and try” orienteering event from the car park at the beach rear all at 11am.
    The ‘Farmers and Country Market Extravaganza’ at the Promenade will commence at 11am while the Tramore Cliff Rescue Team will carry out demonstrations on the Promenade from 11am. All four Surf Schools in Tramore are offering half price on all their Surf Equipment Hire and lessons from 11am.
    Guided rock pool exploration with Alan Walshe will leave from the Bathing Box on Tramore beach at 1pm. Classic Motor enthusiasts will be enthralled with a Classic Volkswagen Show taking place on Sunday afternoon. From noon the Middle Earth Venture Scouts will host rock painting and popular fun and games on the Lifeguard Hut Slip. Thunder Cats will demonstrate their high speed powerboat skills at 1pm from the Men’s Slip. For the pony enthusiast Lake Tour stables will be offering beach pony rides from 1pm on the beach in front of the promenade.
    The popular Klub Music will feature a ‘Battle of the Bands’ at the Pavilion from 1 to 3.30pm. Free face-painting for the kids by Facecraft will take place on the promenade and a Seaweed workshop focusing on the many uses of Sea Weed with the Irish Wildlife Trust will take place at 2pm at Oceanics Surf School. At 3pm the RNLI inshore Lifeboat and the Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 117 will demonstrate their rescue skills.
    At 4.30pm the festival closing ceremony along the Promenade will commence culminating in the casting of a Giant Seaweed Doll into the ocean as our seaside ancestors did nearly 100 years ago. All are welcome to join in the parade which departs the Lifeguard station after a Sea Shanty session with the brilliant Hooks and Crooks.
