Now out, can anyone cover this and Running Wilde?...i'm not gonna watch them, but will welcome others opinions. P.s. - i LOATHE Martha Plimpton...even in her Goonies days!!

Really enjoyed it - Definitely gonna stick with it.
Great nod to My Name Is Earl in there as well - any MNIE fans should check it out just for that alone as it's a real "F**k You NBC" moment...

Martha Plimpton is very underrated actress imo she mostly known for her relationship with River Phoenix but apparently she has been doing many of work on Broadway. She was great in this in the first episode so far even though Jimmy's parents do look very young.

Anyways I loved it. I think its great and very funny and I hope (*pun* :p) it lasts

    +1

And Shannon (DiDiMalloy in The Riches) Woodward too - Mmm Mmm Mmmmmm

Watched this before watching Running Wilde. This is way better. Could be this season's Modern Family.

This was good.. it wasn't 100% wall-to-wall hilarity. But it has massive potential!

Not every joke hit but when a joke was good, it tended to be very funny (e.g the baby jars, and the vomiting scene).

I know it's from Greg Garcia.. but it was VERY 'My Name Is Earl'. Shot identically, similar music cues (a lesson will probably be learned at the end of each episode) and he threw in Kenny for good measure! ;)

Garret Dillahunt is one of the most underrated actors working today, so I'm looking forward to seeing him stretch his comedic muscle as he's been playing more straighter dramatic roles as of late.

Not so sure on Martha Plimpton.. I wouldn't be her biggest fan and she sort of irritated me. But in saying that, I didn't like Jaime Pressly until a few episodes into Earl.

What's with the guy who plays the cousin... everytime I looked at him, all I could see was Alan Tudyk plus Allan Covert's love child.

    tudyk.jpg + AllenCovertsmall3.jpg = Skyler_Stone_943660a.jpg

Anyways.. very impressed with this. Will be tuning in next week!

Far far better than the horrible 'Running Wilde'

Loved this show. It has great potential. Every time I saw Cloris Leachman's character in it though I kept thinking of her character in Malcolm in the Middle :D

I thought most of the humour in this fell quite flat, though there were one or two moments where I actually burst out laughing. I'll give it a few more eps before I kick it to the kerb.

WTF?! This show makes no sense. Not funny at all.

Sabrina is the funniest part of the show IMO.

cheers and getting good reviews here, might take a look at it tonight

    Ok, so second episode:

First thing that strikes me is there are some major changes on the show and some minor. Loss of a few characters, gaining a few and new "theme" in the supermarket.
Kate Micucci is in the show now and she's actually more annoying than in Scrubs. Playing the exact same character - but more annoying and an ugly tooth.

Cloris Leachman, Shannon Woodward, Martha Plimpton and Garret Dillahunt are actually very solid actors in the show, but I'm still finding Lucas Neff quite weak as an actor in this show.

i'm actually really enjoying it and so is the wife. :)

it's refreshingly different and kinda mashes together my name is earl, the riches (which i really miss and was killed off way too soon), malcolm in the middle and married with children and just takes the typical white trash dysfunctional family to the limit.

fingers crossed it gets to stick around for a while to see if it can get to its full potential.

    The scene with
    the grandmother breastfeeding the baby
was gross and hilarious all at the same time

    The flawed smoking room :D

Based on the first 2 episodes, this is definitely the most promising comedy of the new season.

Writing is remaining strong, and performances are great also.

If I had one criticism, it's a bit TOO much like 'My Name Is Earl' - but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

It was cringe-worthy when she pulled out the guitar and started singing... Spot on on her being the exact same character as she was in Scrubs.

I only got around to watching both episodes now and I do like it so far. It definitely reminds me most of My Name is Earl, but the early days when it was still pretty decent. Not sure how much the concept might erode over a few seasons, but it should be fine for at least one. If it gets it that is, we are talking about a live action comedy on FOX after all...

It's been given a full 22 episode order by Fox: http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/10/06/raising-hope-given-a-full-season-order-by-fox/66977

This dosen't bode well for Running Wilde.

Fox has given its critically acclaimed rookie comedy Raising Hope a back-nine order, bringing its total to 22 episodes.

    :)

    "Cirrhosis of the River"

This is the best new comedy of the US season by a mile.

It's quite well cast and every episode has had a few proper laughs so far.

No suprise.. but it's been given a full 22 episode season!
Raising Hope has been renewed for a further nine episodes, Fox confirmed today.

The family sitcom, starring Garret Dillahunt and Lucas Neff, has been extended to 22 episodes by the network, following strong ratings for its first three episodes.

Fox's president of entertainment Kevin Reilly announced in a statement: "With Raising Hope, [creator] Greg Garcia captures a smart take on the working-class family with a great mix of wild comedy and a big dose of heart.

"The show is running like a Swiss clock, and we're very happy with how well audiences have responded so far - so we're confident it will build an even bigger audience throughout the season."

Garcia added: "I'm really happy for our incredibly talented cast and very hard-working crew. They have done an amazing job and deserve this. Me? I was looking forward so some time off, but I guess that's not going to happen."

Raising Hope continues next Tuesday at 9pm on Fox.

It was given a full season almost a month ago - in fact, it was the very first new show on any major network to get a full season. Well deserved though, it is easily the best new comedy this year, really enjoying it.

The last 3 or so episodes have been pretty poor IMO, could just be that I'm now expecting it to make me laugh whereas to begin with it was all new.

I actually thought last weeks episode (the blue dot one) was the funniest one yet.

A washed-up rock star (Jason Lee) who is hired as the lead act at 'Grocery-Palooza', a rock concert at the supermarket where Sabrina works. Smokey was once Burt's musical idol, and Burt hopes to relive his rock-star years by playing backup for him at the concert.

It's remained very solid throughout it's run..

.. I actually even think it's even stronger than 'My Name Is Earl', and that's really saying something.

Anyone else think the kid who plays Hope is surprisingly good at acting? Considering she's a baby and whatnot - her reactions are usually spot on...

Another top notch episode this week - thought the bit at the end with the eggs was hilarious...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,180 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Garret Dillahunt better at least get an Emmy nomination next year.. both as a dramatic and comedic actor, the guy always puts in a superb performance!

    Another top-class episode this week!
