I hope I have the title Free to Air right.....not too tecky minded!

I am in County Galway and have had UPC for some time. I have it in two reception rooms. I am thinking of going the free to air route but am wondering what is entailed.....would have to get a GUY in to do the job!!!! I understand it is satellite and after that? What other kind of work would need to be done to get connected? like is it a case of going in through attic? Can the existing apparatus from UPC be used? etc...etc. I don't pay by direct debit so it would be a matter of just not paying the bill, should I go ahead? (Having worked in the Bank many moons ago, I NEVER go the Direct Debit route.....) Any help for a total nerd in the tecky area would be much appreciated....and if anybody knows anyone in the Co. Galway Co. Tipperary or Co. Offaly area who provides this free to air service, you can pm me. Thanks.

If you are not experienced in this kind of thing then you will need to get a technician out to install the dish. I tried it with one I bought (Im not great with DIY matters) and found it an impossible task to set the dish up correctly.

As for the cabling, I dont know if you can use the UPC cables but I wouldnt think so. The technician will be able to tell you all that anyway; many will call out to take a look and give you an idea of cost involved etc.

As for cancelling UPC, ring them and tell them you want to cancel. If youre in the first year of your contract it will probably cost you to cancel. Simply not paying your bill is not a smart way to go in my opinion.

Thanks. I am with Horizon/UPC now for over 15 years and I would put in place the usual letters of cancellation etc. should I go ahead but thanks for the advice, in any case.
