What's the best way to clean a fertiliser spreader after use?

    It's a job I HATE doing!!

Took all our small single spinner apart recently and repainted it. Now i want to keep it fresh. We don't have a powerwasher so just always clean it by hand and rub it down with burnt oil. But burnt oil is messy and I'm sure I not getting everything when I'm cleaning by hand, any tips/suggestions?

all we do at home is wash it down with a hose after we use it it's starting to look a bit rough now (but that mite be helped by the fact that we are right beside the sea ) but that;s after over 10 years off use

whatever you choose ,powerwasher, hose etc, make sure you grease all grease points BEFORE you wash, this helps to keep water out of bearings etc. and will lengthen the working life of the machine.

Thanks for all suggestions folks. Down the road I'd like to buy a hot/cold power washer which would make job alot easier!

A clip on youtube suggested oiling up spreader after use with vegetable oil;) Sounds like it'I leave the spreader less messy than burnt oil for the sake of a few euro, think I'I give it a try!

    +1 on the greasing.
Always a good idea to grease a machine before putting away for the winter. The bearings get filled up. This keeps out the moisture and stops rust forming.
A good powerwash, leave to dry and then coat everthing with black oil too. Machines will last for ever if they dont rust!

Ignoring the pto shaft, their is only ONE grease nipple on my machine, the gearbox and that was pumped with grease just before use

As for powerwashing is this what you do or what your suggesting I should do?

    Thanks for the tips

Ya, I power wash mine. Only when puting away for the winter. I wash it down with a hose after each use. Also, throw a few buckets of water into it with the PTO going.
    Hate the job too.:D
