    the whatnow?

    what do you mean?

Look, just do your own poll, ask about 10 people, it'll be more accurate and reliable than anything the Sindo will produce/promote

No. Don't jump to conclusions. I am not a Sindo reader but as an Irish person I want to contribute to this, the biggest opinion poll likely to be take on Brian Cowen's leadership any time soon.

That SOAB is out of here.

Do you have confidence in Brian Cowen as Taoiseach ?
If you do, freetext 'yes' to 50123. If you don't, freetext 'no' to 50123

Its little wonder that Irish poltics is in the state it is in when people fall for crap like this. A self selecting poll (where people can vote more than once) is nothing more than a money making racket. It shocking that people can fall for this crap.

Basically sample only be representative (i.e. truthful) if a genuine radon cross section of society is polled. Have a read if this: wiki

By the way the Sunday Business Post and Red C will have a poll out the weekend after next. Don't fall for the Sunday Independent spin.

Again, don't insult people's intelligence. It's not a money making racket, you didn't need to buy the paper to find out what the question was and what the number was! If it was purely money making it would have been buried deep in the paper.

If you have the Freetext number post it, if not I'm not interested in your Sunday Business Post polls ;)

How can freetext be a money making racket ! If a poll trends an undesirable outcome subjectively it's spin and if vica versa it is quoted and bandied about all over the place.

They did a 10 minute poll on Joe Duffy, 22,000 people texted in. The poll was unannounced.
The question was: Do you have confidence in Brian Cowen to lead the country?
    23% yes, 77% no

Sigh.. they use these Bullsh:t polls to sell papers to people who don't understand statistics. For me Irish politics is full of enough bullsh;t as it is and we don't need to be adding to it.

Its valid to challenge you on the validity of this poll. I note that you have not refuted that fact that such a poll is actually nonsense.

Please take so time to consider the points that are being made here. If we don't start thinking rationally about this like this that there is no hope for us.

It sells papers. The Sunday Indo is a commercial organization.

Euro_Kraut... I did originally ask for the Freetext number. I didn't ask for a discussion. My politics are already well established  You are seriously not going to change my mind about the validity of this weekend's Sunday Independent poll. Keep trying by all means, but I'm not going to humour you.

As you have already stated IYO the poll is nonsense - IMO it's 'nonsense' because of a subjective pre-disposition towards an almost certain outcome. More evidence of the current 'reality deficit disorder' by the minority. No doubt the Duffy poll is flawed too, or any other poll that produces the same result.

The Spindo's polls usually add up to 106%

Besides, its an FF rag/tabloid through and through. Why people buy it is beyond me.

This is a discussion forum. Either this is a discussion about polls, or it's a closed thread.

The Spindo like to have these polls as they take up a few pages and validate whatever agenda it has. No different from Adrian Kennedy getting a few plants to get the discussion going.

Didn't work out too well for them!

Could someone clarift this, I dont read the Sunday Independent.

The question for each poll is published in the edition the week before, with a number to call to vote, is this correct?
