Rockery Woman has decided to grow her hair. Its chin length now - and curly, really curly!!! I need your expert advice on hair products - I am currently using mousse (shockwaves) but its making my hair crunchy and hard. I am looking for something to turn frizz into curls that wont make me crunchy or greasy - please help me!!!! Perhaps professional products would be suitable - I dont mind spending money if its good!

I always have the same problem. I like Trevor Sorbie's Curl Cream. You can buy wee tubes of it for like €2.50 in boots and if you like it then get the bigger one which is about €9! :D

The best advice I've been given to tame curly hair is to rub a small blob of conditioner between your hands (important step!) after a shower and massage it into towel-dried hair. It works great for me, but it can weigh your hair down! So a tiny bit is all that's needed really.

Alternatively, volumising mousses are usually lighter than other types - anything volumising is usually pretty light, as otherwise hair gets weighed down and lank, defeating the whole 'volumising' purpose of the products. I had a mousse wax before which avoided that stiff feeling, but the downside was hair which felt like it had had the contents of a chip pan in it.

Leave-in serum is great for taming hair, but really only works well if applied to the ends. I find serum a bit rich, but I like serum spray, which makes the hair look shinier, and tames frizz at the crown.

So for a list of products I've tried and liked:

Umberto Giannini Overnight Magic Hair Repair - great to throw into dry hair and smells gorgeous!
Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner - a spray so it's not an overload of product; I use it on towel-dried hair
Frizz-Ease 100% Shine Glossing Mist - Lighter than a serum, gives good shine - only a few spritzes necessary!
Pantene Volumising Mousse - I just like the smell of Pantene. I try to avoid mousse unless I really need it though

You can buy curl revitalisers in Boots - Lee Stafford and Umberto Giannini are two brands off the top of my head that carry products like that, but I like to use water in a spray bottle to revitalise curls. I know that thats not really a good idea for every curly girl, but luckily I have loose enough curls that contact with water doesn't give the dreaded 'poodle' effect.

Sorry about the length of the post!

Tigi Curls Rock Curl Activator in wet hair (don't towel dry too much, just wring a little)

Then Umberto Gianinni's Curl Friends Scrunching Jelly into it when it's damp. Let it dry naturally.

That's all you need for perfect frizz-free shiny non-crunchy/greasy locks :)

I use a combination of Aussie Miracles leave in conditioner and serum, then I'd put mousse in afterwards and scrunch my hair. Seems to work well for me anyway. That's after 19 years of trying and testing everything.

I have long curly hair and I am on a constant look out for the perfect curly hair products....

This is what I use and I am really happy with the results.

I discovered recently the Yes to Carrots pampering carrot juice shampoo and conditioner and I love it. I think there are certain shampoos curls should religiously stay away from. Try the natural the better. Curly hair tends to be dry and you don't want to be using products that dry is out further. I know the Yes to Carrots one is not completely natural. I think it has the chemical that puts lather in shampoo but all the same my curls liking it!!

Now I don't shampoo my hair every night but definitely every second night. On the nights I don’t shampoo I would run some conditioner through it with my fingers.

With my type of curl I never use a brush, and for the best results I air dry my hair.

I use Umberto Gianinni's flirty curls scrunching jelly. I gently work this into my wet hair and importantly try not to touch my hair too much if you get my meaning???

I find the more I rough my hair up the more frizzy my hair is and the more rubbish the curl is.

Don't tie your hair up when dry, you pull the curls out.

If you ask me I think curly hair is harder to maintain than straight hair??

I find thin hair bands and bobbin clips (think that is what they are called) are a curly hair girl’s best friend!

    Happy curling!! :D

Bed Head's Foxy Curls spray is brilliant it turns frizz into curls easily my sister loves the stuff and she has a real thick head of curls. You can also get the Bed Head Foxy Curls shampoo and conditioner which are great even if you don't have curls, I found that it made my hair really silky smooth and easy to comb and style afterwards.

I swear by John Frieda Frizz ease Curly style conditioner. It keeps the curl pattern that's naturally in your hair.I've tried literally every brand ever made for curly hair and this is the best ever.Small bit of serum after washing (John Frieda again) followed by Charles Worthington Leave-in Conditioner (comes in a big green tube) and Frizz ease Mousse, the only mousse that doesn't leave my hair crispy,or dissolve into tiny flakes and residue on my hair when dry. When my hair is dry then I use John Frieda Secret Agent Styling Cream to smooth out any frizz.
Sounds like a lot of stuff to put in your hair, but I do it in this order religiously and only use a small bit of each, and I do get compliments on my hair a good bit.
It ends up curly not frizzy, natural feeling and not crispy, and swishy not unmoveable.
    Hope this helps!
