Did you see antiques roadshow last night, they had a feature on the 1927 german movie Metropolis.

And seemingly the american release of the the movie only lasted a few weeks it flopped, well the poster for that american theatre release in which only four were printed could be worth up to $i million dollars.

So if you have any american relatives that used to work in the cinema business maybe it would worth giving them a bell.;)

I've have the odd few movie posters in my collection but a couple of hundred euros would be my limit. I can well believe the price suggested for the poster as this small window card advertising "Metropolis" sold for a staggering $38,837.50 in 2007!

I could be wrong, but hasn't he said that only 4 of the original 'German' posters are known to be around till today? With price tag of 400 grand of Stg.

Can anyone explain why there would only be a print run of 4 ? I know the movie had a limited initial release but I mean in terms of the printing side. That sounds odd to me, surely a printer would run off more than that many test prints to get it right nevermind the actual print run. Even to get 4 you would expect to have to print a larger number.

As far as I am aware, I believe these old movie posters were all individually hand painted onto thin fabric and mounted into light boxes. This could explain the low number.
