    Hi Everyone,

My teenage daughter is looking to purchase her first netbook (as laptops are out of budget, i think), after doing better than expected in her junior cert she has around €300 to spend.

Anyway from my own research and browsing around I have narrowed down what seems to be a good value choice, the Acer Aspire One D260A in Argos. A review from trusted reviews also seemed quite positive.

    Her usage will be:
    • internet browsing
    • watching video online (you tube, rte player, etc..)
    • word processing
    • IM, & social networking (webcam, skype, etc..)
    • nice to have: possibly watching dvd's from home network on the netbook or via netbook connected to her TV
Also, in case it matters other PC's in the house have Win7, however this Acer seems to come with WinXP.

    Appreciate any opinions/advice. Thanks! :)

A good choice. Tbh most netbooks are eimilarly specced, with battery life being the deciding factor. The aspire one gets ~ 6hours under normal usage, which is about average for netbooks.
Win XP is still a good opertaing system, and win 7 starter is a really just Win 7 with all the good bits cut out.

    My personal consideration would be
    http://www.expansys.ie/d.aspx?i=189898

Has a slightly larger screen (better for typing, movies etc)
Has HDMI out ( Makes it far easier to plug up to a tv)
Relativly powerful GPU ( allows to watch high definition movies including blu-ray and also light gaming)
    Bluetooth
Space for up to 3gb Ram (easily be able to handle full win 7 installation)
Battery life ~5 hours under normal use

Thanks dazzday, I had seen the Compaq Mini 311 been mentioned a bit alright when researching but never really checked it out in detail. Will give it some thought, cheers ! :)
