Is a 30"x18" immersion cylinder big enough?

We got a new 30x18 immersion cylinder with a 24" element but it wasn't producing enough hot water for a bath.

We called out the plumber and he increased the temperature on the thermostat which helped somewhat but not enough. It only fills the bath by about 6 inches.

Is a 30"x18" cylinder big enough for an average sized bath?

30 x 18 was the standard size up to a few years ago. Now its 36 x 18. Is your bath a new bath or bigger than the standard size.

Both should have no problem filling a standard bath.

    It's a standard sized bath.

There must be a problem with the element.

Might be.... is there a chance you have the sink switch on instead of the bath...

Not meaning to insult you off course.

    Yeah, I agree with joey.

I'd say its wired backwards put it not sink and see what happens.

I tried it on the Sink setting but that didn't work either.

The box the element came in says it's 24" 3KW. Is this powerful enough to do the job?

I'd be ringing back the plumber because there is somthing really wrong.
Maybe a faulty thermostat or cylinder, your hardly losing water through a leak in the floor??
The imersion is strong enough to do the job providing that it's working properly but you wont know unless you test the elements with a multi-meter.

I rang the plumber but he just fobbed me off.

He said the element was working ok beacuse it was producing hot water. When I said 5 or 6 inches of hot water was too little he said I should call out an electrician (at my own expense) to get it tested. When I said that's his responsibility he then said I should get in contact with the people who supplied him with the immersion and deal with them myself. "I just install it" he said.

E790 (+e70 for the electrician) and not enough hot water for a bath!

    Should I keep pestering him?

Cant see it will do any good if hes not willing to stand over his work. could be that the immersion thermostat is misreading or faulty. The thermostat should be set for 65C, if it is and the water is not heating it might be worth replacing.Make sure that the electrics are isolated.

If you have a receipt with his name on it. Write to him Tell him you want it fixed if he does not fix it you will hire another plumber to fix it and then bill him for the cost. If it turns out the immersion is faulty that cost will include the supply of a new immersion.

Tell him he has one week to get back to you from the date of the letter.

If he does not come back to you contact the small claims court in 1 week.

Additionally if he did not give you a receipt or issued an impropper receipt tell him you will contact revenue and report him
