Budget foundation

Hi, just wondering can anyone recommend a cheap enough (less then 15e) foundation that I can just wear from day to day.
I like a fuller coverage, one that doesn't wear off badly and hopefully one that doesn't leave me with acne or a face rash! Whenever I read recommendations on boards the foundations are always so expensive, no problem buying one for a special occasion but can't afford to wear it all the time!!

    Thanks, xxxxx

In the last fortnight I've been using Revlon Colorstay and I find it great, its about 16 or 17 euro. It has medium to full buildable coverage and I find it has better staying power and colour match than the Mac studio fix fluid I've been using for years!

How do you apply it? I've bought it and I'm not really mad about it, I find my skin is really dull and dead looking, might be the wrong shade though, maybe too grey for my skin..

shmatter, the ELF studio flat head powder brush was the only thing I found that worked with the colorstay - otherwise it went on too thick and flat (the 187 struggles with such a thick consistency, I didn't get a good finish). But sounds like the wrong tones for your skin.

L'oreal Infallible isn't bad. It's not amazing, and similar in consistency to Colorstay, but it's a good colour range and it lasts reasonably well for a drugstore brand, could do with a t-zone touch up around lunch tho - I think I paid £11 for it.

I would recommend colourstay or if you want a bit of glow Revlon Photoready. It's tough finding the right shade. It helps if you know your undertone. I find if the undertone is right it will be ok, even if it's not light enough or so.
Some people like putting it on with a damp sponge and others just with fingers. I like a flat top kabuki brush (mine is Sigma, but there are plenty around). I've heard much good about the elf powder brush (which looks like a flat top kabuki).

I find you can get the Colorstay much much cheaper on ebay than if you buy it in Boots.
I'd recommend the Revlon over L'Oreal...simply because L'Oreal is on the PETA list for companies that test on animals, and Revlon is not.

I'd definitely recommend the Colourstay aswell. I've been using it the last few weeks after seeing it recommended in another thread and I'm very happy with it. I've quite uneven skin with a bit of a red tone and it goes on and stays on lovely. I've used all the expensive foundations and this is as good, if not better.

L'oreal Matte Morphose foundation is definitely my favourite budget foundation. I usually purchase from the more expensive brands but I got a sample of this in a magazine and was super impressed so I bought it. It goes on really soft and smooth and is so so easy to blend (I use my fingers for it). the shade I got was creamy natural which suits my skin as I am pale but not super pale. The coverage is very decent but you won't look like you are caked. I don't feel the need for pwoder so it simplifies things if you are in a rush!
Beaut.ie did a review of it if you check out their website. The link wouldn't copy right for some reason but if you bang in loreal matte morphose into the search engine on beaut.ie it will pop up.

If you can test it before you try it all the better as what I love and what suits me might be different to what you need for you!

If you're skin is anything like mine, and it seems it may be given the descriptions of your reactions to the foundations you've mentioned, try L'Oreal. I know it's not cheap, but it's the only one I can wear day-in, day-out without ending up with dry, flaky skin, or with a rash, or just very dull.

I find it a little more difficult to find a colour that suits my skin tone, but I can alter that with blusher or bronzer, and I'll happy take a slightly 'off' colour rather than awful looking skin. I've been using L'Oreal's true match until recently, but couldn't find it in the colour I use, so have changed to their infallible range now, and it lasts well (though I do use smashbox primer with it).

I love Maybelline mousse foundation, and find Maybelline do a perfect colour to match my skin tone, but find it wrecks my skin after a few hours. :(

I have the flat top kabuki too from sigma, used it once with the colourstay and it seemed to stick too much to the brush, how do you clean yours? Olive oil and washing up liquid? Baby shampoo and mac cleanser don't do it for me! Think I will buy a couple off ebay and in few tones, my face'll change colour now the seasons are changing too!

Does photoready stay as long as colourstay??

Love maybelline too but just doesn't last, have their long lasting one at the moment and it's nice but doesn't sit on my nose right, really patchy :(

I tried infallible once, trying to remember why I never bought it again, I think it may have given my a rash or something.

Ahhhh, I'm so picky, sorry guys

I use an oil cleanser to get it out of my ELF flat head brush, followed by a spray cleaner to get out any oil residue. It's a pain to clean out tho!

I use colourstay too, apply it with my grubby little fingers :) I find it lasts really well, but I like light coverage, which it does. I'm pretty pale, can't remember which shade I use, but I look ill without foundation on and this one is really nice on.

God we're like some kind of colourstay support group:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 195 ✭✭blahhh

I have to vote colourstay as well, I use a regular foundation brush to apply it, as long as you work it onto the skin fast, it'll be very even. If I find it too heavy I'll mix with a bit of oil free moisturiser.

Other than that the only other cheaper one I use is maybelline dream matte mousse, but I really only use it as a concealer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 293 ✭✭Shmatter

Does anyone know a good website/ebay seller to get it off on line??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,089 ✭✭✭✭LizT

I use No7 Intelligent Balance Mousse because my skin is quite oily, and it gives a nice matte finish. It gives good coverage and lasts quite well. A little bit goes a long way as well!

I never really wear foundation, but I like it if I was going out for the night or for a special event.
I find that foundations I've tried just look seriously horrible on me, and it pisses me off so much that I get really frustrated and just end up cleaning them off again.
I exfoliate and moisturise and give the moisturiser about half an hour to sink in etc., but everytime without fail I end up with patchy/flaky nose, forehead and a few flaky little dots on cheeks, the weird part is the rest seems to melt off!! It's like I have a dry t-zone, whilst most people's t-zone is the oily part?
It looks disgusting, and my skin looks perfectly ok and smooth with no flakes or dryness without makeup so don't know why it keeps happening with makeup?:(
I've tried No 7, Maybelline mousse, MAC, and some type of maxfactor one, and it's all the same.

I have a friend who uses the old fashioned panstick and however she applies it, she manages to stop it looking caked on, and it looks flawless.

Is this revlon colourstay any good for this type of weird dryness that I've mentioned?
Or does anyone have any experience of dry skin with panstick, maybelline minerals, or any other type of foundation? What has worked?

I can't let Maybelline or No. 7 near my skin as it ends up with the same results as you mentioned. It also leaves my skin in bits for days.

No matter what foundations I try, I still seem to end up with a patchy nose. Although primer has really helped with this I'm still looking for a permanent solution.

I would recommend if you've dry skin on your t-zone to try Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish, I use it for going out. You can get it for under 15e in quite a few chemists and it's dead easy to apply, if you want lighter coverage you simply wet the sponge with warm water. If it's hot you prob will have to top up, but it is really good for topping up, all my friends carry a compact in there bag for that purpose alone, it has the same consistency really as a panstick.

The only problem is there isn't a colour to suit my skin if I'm not covered in fake tan! (I think they have more colours at Elizabeth counters, but they cost almost 30e there!)

I bought Lasting Finish from Rimmel recently as an emergency foundation, think it was about 7 quid and it does the job very well. So well in fact that I haven't bought my usual one since, so not alone do I have a good foundation, I'm also up 40 or so quid as well! I always use fingers to apply foundation and this works well with using my hands.

I like that too, but my skin didn't :(

Oh, well that sucks! Em, Max Factor Colour Adapt is nice too, think it's around the 15 mark!

I can't believe I never knew that L'Oreal test on animals :(:(:( I'm a vegan and massive animal lover and I wear L'Oreal make up all the time. I'll have to stop now. I love their Infallible range :( Regarding colourstay girls, when I used it it often looked dirty? I found it really sticky too and if I messed it up any bit putting it on I'd have to start over again because it wouldn't blend together and left a dirty looking mark  Whether I used primer or not. Any advice? Because I did like the coverage it gave me.

Do people use the normal/Dry or oily skin formula?? Are they any different for colorstay I mean??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭magentas

I'll second (or third?!) Rimmel Lasting Finish got it in Dunnes as emergency on a Sat night when nowhere else open...great value@€7

Maybelline dream creamy really dried out my skin

Kohl do a good range but think it's over the €15 mark

    I've never seen Colourstay:o
Sounds good, must give it a go. Where is it stocked? I'm in Galway pretty sure boots don't do it and never seen it in chemists

Thanks. I have worn a barbara daly thing before that I think is a primer, but I just wore it on it's own and it made my skin really dewy/glowy and healthy looking. I'll give it a go under foundation. Will have a look for that Elizabeth Arden foundation too.

Has anybody tried the "supermoisturising" makeup from Clinique? Any good?
Is the colourstay for dry skin any good? I'm really tempted to try it, because I've read so many good reviews online about it but I can't find a review of someone with dry skin who uses it.

This is a great post, alot of people like Revlon....still at 16/17€ its expensive for something your not sure will work

Is there anyway of getting a sample?

Just thought I`d chim in to say friend recommended olay tinted moisturiser and its amazing couldn`t live without it now and my skins in great nik.

Also for the lady who was talkin about dry patches I occasionally get them and no amount of moisturisers work so I discovered putting a small amount of blistex, you know the repair one for chapped lips, on the area and its the only thing I`ve found to work.

I'm looking out for a new foundation. I might use that rimmel lasting finish when I finish my bottle of bourjois. Really cheap! How long does the bottle last for? My current bottle has lasted me ages a few months I think!

I use bourjois 10 hour sleep effect at the moment but I think my skin is getting paler? as the colour I use used to blend perfectly with my skin but now if looks slightly orange but it calms down after a while. It's nice and creamy, stays on, gives good coverage and smells divine! :)

I was looking at colour stay. I think I found a colour to suit me, but I always end up getting a wrong bottle and have to use the stuff! The bottle seems quite fiddly though I'd like it better with a squeezy thing!
