Is it ok to bet my house on Marquez winning this one?

Is there much possibility of Katsidis winning.
Any one willing to take a stab at Katsidis keys to victory?

If anyone ever had a "puncher's chance" , its Katsidis .

Might be worth a small bet on Katsidis by KO if the odds are long enough !

Not very encouraging odds out from Sportingbet ,
let's see what the others have to offer a bit closer the fight

Marquez is starting to slow down, he was still technically class against Diaz but there's signs that he's not the force he once was. Katsidis could outwork him in this one.

Marquez is a legend, and his counter punching style, accuracy and quality should be enough to beat Katstidis without too many scares.

However, JMM is definitely coming to the end of an illustrious career and sometimes it can just reveal itself in a fight like this. Katsidis is high on intensity and workrate, and could potentially work Marquez into trouble.

I'll still go for Marquez though - he's given such quality to the sport over the years, I hope this isn't the fight to bring the curtain down and he retires as champ a year or two down the line.

Your getting 1/3 on this, it wouldn't be for me, Marquez is getting old and while I think he'll win I think the odds reflect his reputation more than reality

A better bet would Haye to beat Audley by KO, you can get 9/4 on that. The reasons I think thats a banker are -

22 of his 24 wins have been by KO. Out of those 2 that went the distance 1 was against a 315lb monster that had 50 wins and no losses and had never been knocked down (and Haye was also closer than anyone to knocking him down.
    Haye's power is very underestimated

Audley is a lazy fighter, has been KO'd before, has never fought anyone of Haye's standard, has lost to nobodies, is not fast enough to catch Haye with a lucky shot.

The only way that that fight won't be a Haye KO is if there's an accidental headbut and it goes to the scorecards.

If your going to bet your house anywhere bet it on that, the only thing that would stop me is that the crap Audley has been talking has been coming true of late (like he'd actually get a shot at Haye) and i'm a little superstitious

i think katsidis has a right good chance in this. hes coming into his prime while marquez has a hell of alot of miles on the clock. would nt read much into his last fight with diaz fight. diaz has lost interest in the sport and was outworked by a spent force in malinagi. it should be a cracking fight. really looking forward to this one.

Does anyone know if this is still going ahead after Katsidis brother died?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 253 ✭✭pbffan

The mouth-watering clash between Michael Katsidis and Juan Manuel Marquez is on hold following the death of the former's brother.

Stathi Katsidis, a successful jockey in Australia, was found at home in Brisbane on Tuesday morning following a suspected drugs overdose.

His younger brother had been training for the November 27 fight in Thailand when he was given the tragic news, and immediately left the camp to be with his family.

The WBA and WBO lightweight title fight has not been scrapped but it will be up to Katsidis if and when he wants to re-schedule.

"Our concern is for Michael as a person, rather than boxing," said David Itskowitch, representing Golden Boy Promotions.

"We want him to be OK and I don't know if he can be OK because he just lost his brother.

"Right now our concern is for Michael. Our concern is not for the fight. His well being is what is important."

Katsidis was last seen destroying Kevin Mitchell inside three rounds at Upton Park earlier this year.

    I think you meant 4-9.

There have been a few delevopments, and it seems that the fight is back ON!
I have lost my closest friend, my inspiration in life, my one and only brother. This is something I could never imagine, but for some reason I feel his life is not a loss. My brother is me! We live our lives through each other. We dedicate our triumphs to one another and share the challenges we face in life. What does someone do when they lose the one person in their life like this? They are devastated right? Allow me to share with you Stathi's thoughts and what he wants. If you can believe me, I feel you will all be somewhat enlightened to hear what I have say.

The fight will go on! I will do this for Stathi, my family and myself. The moment I walked in for a grueling sparing session after hearing the news of his death earlier that day, my trainer Brendon Smith shook my hand and said to me "you are about to take the bravest step of your life." We nodded, smiled and went to work. I worked as I have never done before. He is with me and will be all the way. I am happy about this.

I have never experienced anything like I felt that day. Stathi is inside me! We will fight this fight together. I know this is what he wants.

I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes and prayers for my brother, my family and myself. God bless.

A man possessed is a dangerous fighter. Wouldn't be surprised to see Katsidis win by stoppage.

I like Katsidis here too. Marquez is 37, and a bit keen keen to trade these days. If Juan Diaz had any power, he would have had JMM out cold in 3/4 rounds of their first bout. I also noticed that in Diaz II, Marquez tired badly in the second half of the fight. I believe that Marquez is on the slide tbh. Katsidis may be limited, but he has what it takes to beat JMM imo. He'll be applying on-stop pressure, and as Marquez tires in the latter rounds, I see him landing a stoppage.

I've a strong feeling this will be fight of the year too:D

I'm lucky enough to have this Live, I'm predicting fight of the year & Katsidis to come through as victor.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 253 ✭✭pbffan

Hes some man, a total beast.
marquez is looking well now lately though. great fight

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 253 ✭✭pbffan

Marquez still outclassing him yeah. It'll come down to his conditioning imo, if he starts to tire like he did in Diaz II, Katsidis will get rid of him. If not, then he takes it by decision

    very even round

Is it just me, or does Katsidis seem to be doing a Caballero glance punch impression when he's on the inside?
You need the Kayo Mike, that won't get it for you

    Sin é

Great performance from Marquez, suggestions of him being on the slide were a bit premature it seems

Brilliant fight , its almost as if jmm likes fighting off the ropes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

Jaysis, did not see that fight ending as a stoppage for marquez, mad respect for him, he's an absolutely class act. Tough tough fight to score, had them on level points up until the point the referee intervened.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭digme

Marquez, what can you say? A total warrior, makes pacquiao look like an amateur.(IN THERE 2 FIGHTS)
    marquez 2-0 Pacquiao !!!!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 253 ✭✭pbffan

If Pacquiao/Marquez III happens above 140, it's a no contest. Let's hope Pac gives the fans what they want

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,068 ✭✭✭Bodhisopha

Love Marquez, absolute legend. I think Pacquiao blows him away though, should they meet again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,972 ✭✭✭joepenguin

Pacquiao has gotten shockingly good since their last fight though. Plus he's want it at 147 and thats too high for jmm, he just isnt effective and its not mannys optimal weight. JMM-Kahn could well be on the cards.
EDIT: it IS Mannys optimal weight.

I'm not so sure it is Mannys optimal weight, i'd say 140 probably is. I've no doubt Manny could make it but boxing being boxing and in light of the weight demands put on Manny's recent opponents i'm sure they'd want it at 147 - which we know isn't JMM's optimal weight - just so Pacquiao looks better against him than that other fanny.

I hope Marquez gets another crack at him though, he deserves a big pay day.
