DCM Pace/target

I started training for the DCM in May after never having run a race in my life.

I finished the Adidas 10miler in 66.30 and the Adidas half marathon in 1.24.23.

Quick question what time/pace should I aim for in the DCM? Mc Millan reckons i am capable of 2.58.

What do others think, should i go out on a negative/positive split?

Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

    Thanks.

Good running and in theory 2.58 is well in your range. This all depends on your training. It's a big jump going from a half to a full marathon. What has your longest run to date been and how many long runs have you done recently. How did you feel after the half yesterday were you close to death? All these things need to be considered.

A very vague rule of thumb is double your half marathon time and add 10 mins to get your full marathon time which will give you around the 2.58, but experience tells me you should be adding at least 20 mins instead of 10. A lot really depends on getting those long runs into your legs and building the mileage up gradually. Luckily enough your giving yourself plenty of time and with that time for the half marathon you have a good fitness base to start with. A lot depends on getting there without any injuries, the weather etc etc....the very best of luck with whatever time you aim for..:)

    Thanks for the advice.
I am running 20mile at the weekends. Most of my training is using my garmin hrm.

I am doing interval work twice a week and a mix of 6/8/10 mile runs the rest of the time.

My training plan is up to 22 mile runs and then taper 2 weeks before the DCM.

Will I go out sub 7 minutes and then naturally fade towards the end, or should i go out easier and leave some in reserve for the last 6 miles?

Last year I did 66 in the 10 mile, 1:24 in the half and ended up with 3:07 in the full.

I always knew 2:58 was fantasy land.

Plan looks very solid how many 20s have you in the bag and what sort of times are you doing them in? It's hard to tell somebody what pace to run at without seeing all their training to date.

If you're unsure I'd run on the side of caution. Better to run 3.05-10 while enjoying the experience than head off at 2.58 pace and get to 20 miles and realise you are in trouble. You could surprise yourself and feel strong late on and gain a few minutes. If you feel $hite there is the real possibility you could loose tens of minutes.
