    Hi all,

quick question. If you are a young trained farmer is there definitely an exemption from paying stamp duty if you buy land.

ie: its not a transfer from a relative...you intend to buy it from someone thats not related to you at all.

I think the answer is yes if you satisfy the conditions (keep it for 5 years afterwards/ 50% of your working time spent on it etc) but would like confirmation from someone thats done it or knows someone that has...would like to know if there are any potential pitfalls etc Im not seeing...

    as always appreciate any help.

Yes there definitely an exemption, I availed of it twice before i hit 35. You need to make sure you've done the appropriate course. I think you need a full green cert in agriculture now but you`d best double check with teagasc.
