As much as I've grown skeptical of Will Ferrel movies, I still held the faintest of hopes for this movie, and by god it delivers, an absolute reprieve from all those cripplingly poor Ferrel movies as of late. Highly recommended, a laugh a minute, and really brings you back to those glory days of the high tide of 2005/2006. Well worth a watch, and more - can't recommend it enough.

The 2 big shot cops jumping from the 20 story building is the biggest wtf iv'e seen in a film in ages,
it really is a laugh a minute so many quotes in this movie.

I really enjoyed this, as said before, it isn up to the standard of anchorman but it is still a great watch

was impressed with wahlberg and by the jackson cameo.some jokes did miss though and you were left waitng for the punch line.

Just been to see it and thought it was really good. Thought Wahlberg was cool. Played the straight guy part really well.

went to see this as there was sod all else on that interested me and i have to say i enjoyed it.

i DONT think its a laugh a minute but theres some good stuff in it.

i thought the bit with the granny delivering the messages back and forth was class but the joy was the seemingly backround things thrown in for no real reasons like the hobos sex orgy or the little kid from the classroom that gets invited for a ride along by ferrel and wahlbergs rivals .
its basically just a set up for one gag of her flying from side to side on the back seat during a high speed pursuit

i dont know if it'll be everyones taste but i though it was ok and whalberg was alot funnier than i thought he could be
, though the funniest thing was finding out ferrels character was basically a pimp and when he starts mouthing off to mendes about "what gater wants" i was in stitches :)

    Rehashed?

I personally think it's the furthest thing from rehashed tbh.

Alot of original jokes in there.

A real return to form for Ferrel. I thought Wallberg was great in a comedy role too.

I loved it. Laughed my ass off for most of it.

I AM WILL FERRELL AND I AM SHOUTING MY LINES!

Ah to be fair, I enjoyed it, mostly. There were a fair few dud lines, there's no doubt about that, but I think Ferrell's at his funniest when he's not resorting to just shouting his lines in that deadpan manner of his. He is a good comic actor, there's just a middle-way in there, trying to get out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Will Ferrell really can't carry a film. I thought this was pretty awful and I went into it with pretty high hopes. One liner after one liner and they weren't funny most of the time.

It's up there with Talladega Nights, Semi-Pro, Blades of Glory and Land of the Lost. Waste of time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,836 ✭✭✭Sir Gallagher

Typical Will Ferrel fare really a bit hit and miss i got a bit bored towards the end tbh. On a side note, why does Steve Coogan still get work in hollywood? I love Alan Partridge but other than that i think he's a pretty poor actor.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kraggy

    Just in from this.

Thought it was awful. Didn't find it funny bar one or 2 minor laughs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,439 ✭✭✭Skinfull

The only Will Ferrel movie I like is Stranger than Fiction. Wasn't expecting much and tbh didn't get much. Wasn't horrible wasn't rolling round laughing. Was just meh. Few good lines but it was set up, set up, set up release, repeat ad nauseum.

10/10 one of da best comedys ever...will ferrel is 2 funny haha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

I'm not a Will Farrell fan at all, I never fell into this " Anchorman is the funniest movie of all itme" crap that everyone goes on about, it was a decent comedy but by no means brilliant.

All of his films have a decent replay value and are good for a little giggle in my view.

This however I was in tears at parts. Really enjoyed it overall and thought it was quality. In my view his funniest by far. Funniest film I've seen in a long long time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,305 ✭✭✭DOC09UNAM

Wahlberg may have found a new role in comedys, he was fairly good in the movie tbh.

    And the part about the
Dirty mike and the boys havin sex in the car, soup kitchen, quality... Dirty mike is actually the director of the movie

its not a matter of people not getting it, more simply not finding it funny

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭Dubhthamlacht

This film had some sporadic moments which were very funny and then long periods where there wan't much to laugh at. It tried very hard to be hilarious and movies that try that fall flat on their face. I found myself laughing more at the trailer of Jackass 3D shown before this film. I loved Anchorman and thought Will Ferrell was great in Old School and generally look forward to his films. But this just isn't all that great. Mark Whalberg gave a very good performance. Overall a fairly average comedy and film.

I loved Mark Wahlberg in this best part of the film for me but I did lol a lot especially at Ferrell's character
    singing in the pub
so far one of the better comedies of the year

Loved it. Great film for what it was- silly, spoofy cop buddy movie.

Loved the scene with the two macho cops
    jumping off the building

Loved Wahlberg's acting for the first time ever.

Eva Mendes' character was brilliant and loved Ferrell's treatment of her.

My favourite character was Michael Keaton as the Chief. Especially when
he turned up towards the crime scene at the end wearing his Bed, Bath & Beyond apron from his other job and also the constant TLC references

    The scene at the bar
with the long freezeframe spot was very funny and unexpected

I want this on DVD. I think there's loads of potential to spot/hear jokes that were missed the first time around.

The only thing I didn't like were the credits
thought I'd fallen asleep and woken up at the end of a Michael Moore film for a minute

i actually stayed to read all of them.

was very surprised as i didnt expecet it to go into such details about all the banking scandals in the states.

really came out of left field , but was very informative in a fun way.

Very "meh". IMO all the jokes were pretty much in the trailer. Funny but not side splitting. But I agree with Wahlbergs performance being pretty good, was expecting it to be terrible!

I couldnt stand some of Ferrells films like Blades of Glory, Semi-Pro or land of the lost but i also thought some of them like Old School, Step Brothers, Anchorman, and Talladega Nights were pretty funny. The Other Guys is up there with his better ones. I was surprised by Mark Wallberg, i thought he played his role comedy well, plus, the fact that the rock and Samuel can turn on the comedy whenever they want def makes this worth a watch......well i think so anyway

i wished the rock and sammy were in it more but overall enjoyable and eva is easy on the peepers :D

I stopped watching this film half way through, and I love Will Ferrell. Maybe Ill give it another go.. I can't take Mark Walberg seriously, and its strange because obviously he is supposed to be funny in this...but it just doesn't work. I prefer when I'm laughing at him.

My BF and I are very guilty of laughing at Mark Wahlberg but it redeems himself in this movie, thought he played off Will Ferrell really well!

The first half is very funny (and to get a room of critics laughing at 10.30am can be hard) but the second half does drag a bit. Still, it's well worth a look if you fancy a good giggle

Nope not really, it was all in my own opinion. Anything outside the trailer shown here I didn't really find funny at all.

Thought the film was okay, but not brilliant. If it wasn't for the supporting cast (Keaton, Jackson, Johnson), it would have been awful.

    Worst bit:
Jackson and Johnson jumping off the building. Why? I mean, what the frig was that? Why not have them on the zip line then have the zip line cut and write them out that way? Them just jumping off made absolutely no sense and was one of the laziest bits of writing I've seen in ages.

    It did make sense!!
They thought they were invincible tough guys, and they presumed they would land safetly because everything goes their way! It was hilarious! If the zipline was cut with them on it, that would have been way too cliched and unoriginal!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,305 ✭✭✭DOC09UNAM

They thought they were invincible because they had so many brushes with death and always lived.

I don't see how it makes them lazy tbh, Making them fall off the zip line seems lazier now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,729 ✭✭✭✭Penn

If there was perhaps something below which they could have landed in which suddenly moved and then they died, that would have been fine. But for them to just jump off a 20 storey building somehow believing themselves to be invincible, is just ridiculous. Yes, it's a comedy, but it just didn't fit in with the rest of the film. Seriously, if that was in Epic Movie, or Scary Movie, or Cop Movie or whatever, then I'd have no problem (my biggest problem would be why am I watching those movies)

They were supposed to be the best cops, and then The Other Guys have to take over. But jumping off the building just made them look like fcuking idiots. And having the robbers cut the zip-line and killing Jackson and Johnson then gives Ferrell and Wahlberg more reason to go after the bad guys

Fair enough. Just my opinion is all. Anyway, back on topic, I quite enjoyed Steve Coogan's performance too. I was worried he'd be overacting or given an over-exaggered role, but he hit all the right notes.

No offence, but if you didn't like that type of humour then it's not really your type of film. Imo, that's one of the best scenes in the film.
