UPC don't supply Sky Sports HD so they would never be giving it for free for the weekend.

I signed up for SS a few months back and I was told by the contact in UPC that they are still in discussions with Sky about HD. The UPC contact claimed that there would be no premium for getting SS HD when it does become available.

How could they say that if negotiations are ongoing. Some people in callcenters will lie about anything.

Allegedly it will start January, Sky are going to start pushing 3D so they won't care about HD any more.

I wouldnt be so sure about that tbh. 3D is a gimmick that in my opinion is not going to take off to anything like the level HD has, so for the long foreseeable future HD is still the trump card Sky are able to hold over companies like UPC and Virgin.

Sky make too much money from HD subscriptions. They care about it.

Well that is the UPC viewpoint and that is what I tend to agree with. UPC have a hell of a lot of money and this is a big selling point. Look what they are doing with broadband, they will be bringing in remote recording and video on demand no doubt at some stage :)

UPC are of the opinion that Sky are going to give up caring about HD in January in favour of 3D? That sounds a little deluded to me...
