I am fully recognised with the teaching council and have a PGCE (UK). I want to have PGCE recognised for payment of allowence (working in a secondary school non VEC). How to I go about this? Do I sent things in the Dept of Ed or give the things into the school secretary?

    Many thanks.

    Hi

I would imagine that the Teaching Council would be your first port of call. They are the ones that will eventually be recognising you so I would call them and ask what the procedure is.

I think the union may be a good place to go too. Even when they don't have the answers they are usually good at finding them. I would consider it to be part of their job as it is pay/increment related.

Failing that ask other teachers in the school. Surely there is at least one of them there that has had to do the same thing.

It probably does concern the Dept of Ed though. Wouldn't go near the secretary in your school with it, it's definitely not her job.

The teaching diploma I have has been already recognised by the teaching council. Wondering who to notify to get the qualifications awarded for payment purposes

Well my understanding of it is that if you are registered with the teaching council then your PGCE qual should already be recognised for payment purposes. Could it be that your employer doesn't have a copy of the parchment?

No they dont, they have not asked for it. Should I give it to them. I also have a masters.

Yeah, bring everything into work tomorrow, make copies, get them certified (by showing them to principal and asking him to check them against originals and sign & stamp them) and forward them on to your employer.

Call them also and tell them you are sending them. Also tell them why you are sending them if they don't already know.

Any money owed is back-dated also, well at least that is the case within the VEC.

They probably assume you would send it in yourself. Ring the department and ask to speak to whoever deals with this stuff. You should be entitled to HDip/PGDE allowance and Masters allowance. They'll tell you what to send and where to send it.
