Yes. The HSE will happily sell you any birth cert. If you have the name and date and place of birth they will get it for you.

Yes, anyone can get a birth cert from the Register of Births, Deaths and Marriages. They can even be bought online now.

Why don't you access above website!

I have no personal experience of ordering a certificate from this website.

It is crazy expensive to order from that site. Your local HSE office can do them at cost.

Lets just say someone had my details DOB and mothers maiden name etc they could go in and buy my birth cert?:eek::eek::eek:

Whats to stop them using it in opening bank accounts/passports and other illegal stuff with my cert surely this has to be private and unique just to the owner

Sorry for jumping in on this thread but I never knew anyone could get their hands on my birth cert using my details

They are instruments of public record, death certs too so yes anybody can obtain a copy of anybody's birthcert.

Re bank accounts you would need photographic proof of ID and utility bills to open one.

Re passport you need a birthcert but also Garda certified photos which I would imagine would be difficult to procure under a false name.

Hence why you should shred your bills and burn them.

Not so sure about that, last two times I got a passport, I went to a Garda Station where I was not known and got them to sign photos with no real effort.

Maybe I have an honest face...
