I'm going to the ploughing on Wednesday to buy slat mats.
I have a 14'6'' Corbett slat and i have four bays (~60 foot long).
    has anyone put mats in?
what sort of money would i expect to pay?
how many may manufactureres are there out there?
    who would you recommend?

Id guess 400e a bay. Go talk to farmers that have them in, look what works. All you'll get at ploughing match is sales talk.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I was recently quoted €1200 plus vat per bay for 14 ft 6 I. H slat.

you wouldnt get half a pen done for 400, 1200 including vat is about the price of it all right, Id agree with looking and talking to people that have it down

My brother put in the "Comfort Slat Mats" 4-5 years ago. They were the most expensive at the time but have the advantage of an "air cushion" effect when you walk on them. They are also fitted over the side of the slat so cant move/swell as some other brands do & hold slurry as a result. Would deffo recomend them.

it's a pity the grant for them was shortlived:rolleyes:

Definitely a good idea, but can't stretch to it yet I'm afraid

We have them down for about 7 years now and they are fantastic, we actually house some of the dairy cows on them and although we try not to calve them on the slats it has happened plenty of times and never any problems with cows standing after. We also never have problems with mastitis even tho the cows tend to be that bit dirtier than cows on cubicles but otherwise they are a great idea. I havent a clue about the price nowadays.

    Oh and we used easyfix.

yeah Mayo mats put the whole mats in and the boys come along afterwards with a jigsaw to cut out the holes
    PRICES
Mayo Mats:€1,050(excl. Vat) per bay for a 14'6'' slat with a 1&1/2 foot step at the front and back
Comfort mats:€1,200 (excl. Vat) per bay
i'll nearly go with the comfort mats, they look more professional and give a five year warranty

I've seen the mayo mats. After a year or 2 they stretch and move and aren't exactly over the holes that they were cut out of. This causes a build up of slurry in the pen and your animals will be very dirty from lying in their own sh!te. This goes against the whole concept of what slats are supposed to do ie. let the manure fall through them. It also can't be comfortable for cattle if there's a build up. Neither can it be healthy.

cheers reilig, i had a concern about that alright.
i think i'll go with the comfort mat after all, it's about €750 extra.
