    Hi,
I'm new to using boards.ie... I have a question if anyone can help ?

I'm trying to access my office PC from home using Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection. Office PC is on an eircom broadband connection and my home PC uses Meteor broadband.

Can Remote Desktop Connection be used under these conditions ?

You could use a VPN to connect your home and work networks, this is complicated but under certain conditions this would allow you use RDP for remote access.

A simpler solution is Logmein it will allow you to access machines on either site.

Forward an external port on the router to port 3389 on the PC in question. Make sure the PC is set to allow RDP connections too.

Though, that said, when you say Meteor broadband do you mean some crappy mobile dongle?

If you want to connect remotely to your office then you should need an encrypted VPN. Any other way would be insecure and bad business practice.

    Hi.. thx for the replies.

I tried LogMeIn and it seems to work great.

Windows Remote Desktop Connection seems to highlight how you can control your desktop via the internet, but i couldn't find a way without joining a network.
