i'm looking for a pedal board for roughly 6 pedals, i'm sick of having them just thrown into my bag and slipping etc. i have a daisy chained power supply so i don't really need something that's powered. i was looking at the pedal train jr, but it's a bit too pricey. any idea's?

If your requirements are simple there's nothing wrong with a chunk of wood to fit a cheap flightcase from a DIY shop, you can drill holes in the board and cable-tie the pedals or use velcro

i was thinking of making one myself. any body made one with those ikea gorm shelves?

The gorm shelves look a little bit flimsy, maybe something thicker. I've made a couple in the past from cuts of old flatpack desks from argos, stick some spare rubber feet on the bottom.. You'll want something that'll basically support your body weight if you're jumping on a wah or whatever

I saw a thread where a guy made one from an IKEA gorm shelf. http://www.metalguitarist.org/forum/guitar-gear-discussion/22313-so-i-did-diy-ikea-pedalboard-thing-no-1200-baud.html made from this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50058512.
It looks like a good way to make a cheap board but if you gig much I'd probably recommend a case, quick and easy to clear up and your pedals will stay safe in it.

that first link looks like a kids toy with the packaging

i have sometihng similar to the second link and highly recommend, if you get a dc brick of even just daisy chain its a handy place u can keep your pedals i love my pedalboard, its super neat :D

I just built one out of wood! Surprisingly easy. Just found a decent sized piece of wood in the shed, some screws, some 90 degree metal things that keep its shape, some hinges and some paint. The most expensive thing I bought for it was the velcro. I posted some pics of it in the gear thread. Surprisingly easy to do... I've no experience whatsoever in woodwork! I fit in a non-stomp box tuner really easily too... I'd reccomend at least trying to build it yourself

i built a super fancy one out of wood, but it was heavy and impractical, althought it did look cool, impossible to transport and awkward to carry, if its just for around the house or whatever building one without a case is fun and cool but for somsone gigging, those simple rockcases are handy andy

    practical transportable board = http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j235/alsfotos/board-1.jpg

I built a lid onto mine and i can throw it in the boot with the other gear no porblem! It doesn't have any handles but it's easy enough to carry around.

I see you've ditched your HR-2 Harmonist from your old board... The one I have is borrowed (has been for the last year or two). Dreading the day I have to give it back!

yeah they're pretty cool pedals, but the ps-5 super shifter is the replacement for the hr-2 harmonist, since they're not in production anymore!

does the job aok! rarely use it anyways, got it for 100 on adverts for 100 some time ago

Yeah but the PS-5 can only play one harmony can't it? The HR-2 you can play 2 at the same time... Which I'd use the majority of the time when usin that pedal

indeed, thats the catch, ps5 has a tonne of extra features that make up for it, whatever yer into really, ps5 is more than enough for me so im all gooooooood, i basicly use the ps-5 as a whammy pedal without the awkward power supply issue and size!

only thing that annnoys me is rolands ev-5 expression pedal doesnt have seperate cable jacks, the cable is tied to the internal circuit so lots of unecessary excess wire >: (

Nice board. I am looking at the Thomann Rockcase @ 60cm wide.

How wide is your board? It looks just perfect.:)

pretty sure thats the one i have

    dimensions: 80 x 50 x 12cm

they have also gone up in price on thomann! ...i got that case about 5 years ago though 8)

they are a nice medium between size and weight, i recommend that one indeed

right so i'm gonna try out a DIY ikea gorm pedalboard for now, and maybe an mdf one later if this fails. where's the best place to get the velcro strips?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 888 ✭✭✭quicklickpaddy

Homebase or anything like that. A 5m roll of it is around €20... If you can, I'd suggest finding or building even a box to go over it to protect the pedals if they're in the boot of a car or anything

yea velcro is more expensive than u think its u think u can do it ok with a homemade thing go for it, but itsl all good

You sure that one in your pic is 80cm? There is a 60cm board and also a 45cm one. The 80cm seems a bit big for pedals.

i got my gorm board today, not gonna bother painting it. the shelf and the extender lats were 6.50 altogether, 1m of velcro was 10 euro in homebase. here's a quick picture of it http://www.flickr.com/photos/48127495@N02/5005078945/
