On Monday I got the months notice in work, I think I might need to sell my car in the next month or two as chances are I'll have to go abroad to find work (hooray! :()

Blue MkIV Golf 1.4 75bhp Comfortline, 2001, 59k miles, Tax 05/11, NCT 06/12, 5 Door Hatch, FSH, Bluetooth CD/Mp3 player,, Factory fitted Alloys, 2 new Front tyres

Going by carzone, its looks like 3,500-4,000 for 2001 1.4's, but my mileage is lower than most. Even still, I cant believe a 2001 car is still going for that much, golfs really do inexplicably hold their value, whether those are shifting at that price is a another story.

Could anyone recommend a good asking price? Cheers

€2k would be a fair price for it. Advertise it for €2.5k and see what happens.

3,500-4k for them on carzone?! i mean try to get the best price you can. You will get people who dont have a clue what the car should cost, but if you need to sell it quick enough, maybe put it up for €2950, if no one contacts you or there is little interest after a week or two drop the price. I dont see the point in starting off the price from rock bottom...

Yup thats kinda what I thought the answer would be. I bought the bloody thing about 4 minutes before the arse fell out the car market.

Good point. I might just try to just undercut the others on car zone and make it the cheapest of that year and see what happens.

    It's quite simple.

You check the current market and price it to sell.

I sold my brother's XC90 in less than 24 hours using that logic. Forget about almost all extras/add ons. They're a total write off once installed. Compare it to other similarly aged/mileage vehicles.

edit: change made up word 'miled' to mileage.

Sold my passat 130 sport 2001 last year to my sus for 3000

It always amazes me how people will over value there cars.

I would have thought 2500 sounds about right, depends how quick you want to shift the car on.

Might be worth being optimistic keep the car you know and hope will get a job in a few weeks.
