Hey! Does anyone know what the deal is with getting fitness assessments in the gym at Trinity?
How much it is, what they do, do they give you a plan etc?

As far as I know it's all free. They'll give you a good workout plan in there, I was happy with mine :)

Hm, I can't remember too well, but I thought I paid for it when I went for an assessment.

Anyway, they sit you down and ask you about what you want, your diet/lifestyle, make you fill in a questionnaire type thing so they can size you up properly. They then make a rough plan for you, then bring you around to the machines to show you how to use them and specialise the plan (what weight/speed to use, how many reps to do, etc.), which is all written down on a card thing. I think there's a free follow-up consultation you can get after a month or two but I didn't go so I don't know about that.

    It's not free. I think its €12.

I cannot recommend Niamh enough. She was brilliant. When we didn't get through everything in the session she brought me back for another one the following week. I'd ask for her if you can. Two of my friends (male & female) got one of the guys and said he was ****. Spent more time going on about himself than focusing on them.

Thanks guys, that's really helpful :D! I don't mind paying a little bit for it if I have to because it sounds like they do a really thorough job. I figure that this is the year that I should finally make use of that gym those fees go to and I def need a little direction soo...I'll give em a call!

PurpleFistMixer has the basics of it. I'll recommend Leanne as well - she was great in working out a plan. and when I hurt my arm and needed to redo my plan she helped me create a new one.

You could be waiting ages for an appointment. So, as soon as you get your student card and get it validated at the gym, make an appointment for an assessment. I'm pretty sure they can't take bookings over the phone.

I thought that the fitness routines that I and a few friends were given were complete **** to be honest. The diets weren't great either.

Get one anyway and post it up in the fitness section of boards and have them take a look. They'll give you pointers on what needs to be changed.
