Day out ideas for baby?

We were thinking of bringing the baby to Turoe Pet Farm for a day but it seems it's not open at the moment. I had him at the Aquarium today and he loved watching the fish, pissed himself laughing at the splash pool :D. So I thought he'd like to see some other animals.

Is there anywhere within an hour that would be good for an afternoon out of this sort?

Aliwee caves has a bird of prey centre, I loved it as did my kids(6 & 9) not sure if your baby would, but it's a good day out and there is an option to only go to the bird of prey centre. I'm not a huge fan of the cave.

There's a pet farm near athlone can't think of the name of it but it is signposted. Think you take the monksland exit just before athlone. It costs €9 for adults and kids.

I loved it, myself and BF went we were the only people there without children!

Glendeer, forgot about that one. It's open until the end of Sept according to its site. Thanks!

I would love the birds of prey myself but I think the baby is too young yet.

There's a pet farm at Kiltimagh too. Think it has some exotic animals too. How old is your baby?

He's nearly 8 months, so he's only noticing animals now. Seems fascinated!

Thats excellent. Enjoy every second of it which i'm sure you will.
You could also just go into some petshops.
Swimming is a great activity too

I know lots of parents who loved Eagles Flying in Ballymote, Sligo. It's probably a bit over an hour away but in addition to the birds of prey they have a really cool pet zoo with donkeys and pot bellied pigs and rabbits etc.

Then, since you're in Sligo already, you could bring him to the Hazelwood trail at Lough Gill - it's lovely this time of year with the leaves:

You can bring babies into the shallow public pool, seems like good fun.

On a dry day, Brigit's Garden is a wonderful place to bring a child, especially when they can walk. It's between Moycullen and Oughterard.

I was there with my kids a few days ago and it was magical.
