Sony 32" CRT - worth fixing?

I have a Sony 32" Trinitron KV-32FX66B (100Hz) model. Had it around 8 years now. Today we switched it on and the screen flashed, and there was a noticeable burning smell for a short time. Nothing happening now other than the standby light flashes when turned on.

I was only saying the other day what a great telly it's been and I'd no intention of changing it... typical eh?

Just wondering is it worth fixing - I'd imagine it'll cost at least a couple of hundred euro depending on what's wrong, but I'm guessing. It has a brilliant picture - a lot better than some of the pixelated crap I see on modern LCDs so I'm kinda reluctant to dump it if I can avoid.

Any advice? Decent repair shops in Meath or NW Dublin area? And is there any typical problem with these sets that it could be?

Any of this thread ring a bell (I never got round to looking at it)?

Mine seems to have been sudden rather than something that developed over time, was fine up to today and wham - nothing. Wife turned it on, said the sound came up (as it always does while the tube heats up) but then the screen flashed now nothing at all - other than the stand-by light flashing.

Funny thing is we were just about to replace a 12 year old Sony 29" CRT (non widescreen) which is still working perfectly as the old 4:3 format is becoming a pain now. Might be holding on to it yet! :(
